GIFO #4, Meister and the I-5 in CA on 5-14-06...

    this is long winded...
    sorry everyone...
but a little pre-story is needed...

    back in January of 06'
we had a meet and greet in San Diego...
and I had a friend down from Sacramento doing business and told him to come on over...
well he (Brad) went out with us (DanRealtor, Meister and DanRealtor's friend Eddie) on Friday night...
we did a very short spirited driving stint through the ranch and I showed the boys the "rollercoaster"...
we did the whole drive up to Crystal Cove, run through the mountains (Mesiter's favorite thing so far still) and the meet and greet the next day on Saturday the 14th I believe...
we covered 300 miles that morning before noon...
we then retired to my house after the M&G for steaks (ribeyes - marinated & seasoned) and a case of beer (I was drinking Jim Beam of course being at home)... Meister, DanRealtor, Fatchance, Eddie, myself and Brad....
and we had a great dinner...
well my friend from Sac. also joined us that Sat. night...
being away from home on business I owed him a home cooked meal...
we did it up right that night...
Meister even gave my friend a ride in his car...

    advance to today...

so I am on the phone with my friend from Sacramento telling him about my car dilemma...
    when he chimes in...
    "speaking of which"...
do you know a guy who owns a white 300C SRT8?
well Brad, they don't make a 300C SRT8 in white...
but I can think of only one car...
    now mind you...
    Brad live in Sacramento...
    hmmmm...
    wasn't GIFO last weekend???
so my mind is already 3 steps ahead on this one...
and he sets the story line...

"so I am driving down the I-5 about 45 minutes north of the Grapevine"...
    sound familar yet Meister?
"I am doing 85 in the minivan with the wife and kids on the way to Disneyland...
when I look in my rearview mirror and I spot this white car coming fast...
    ok, I'm dead!
    CHP and full-on ticket coming...
well the car gets closer and I get out of the way...
and I notice that it is a white 300C...
    and the license plate F-15...
I swear it is from California..."
this is where I tell him - "No Brad, there is only one F-15 in the whole country and that is Meister...
YOU MET HIM AT MY HOUSE IN JANUARY!!!"
    NO WAY he chimes in!
    that's the same guy!
I thought he lived in AZ?
    Why, yes he does...
    NO WAY!!!
    ok, are you kidding?
    nope...
ok, you have got to tell him this...

    oh no, Brad...
    I got a better idea...
I'm going to tell 6,000+ people!!!!
    HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
    love you wingman!!!
so he is very descriptive on what happened and how many cars you passed in the 1 mile you were within spittin' distance of each other...
you passed him like he was standing still...
and then slalomed through the remaining 6-9 cars and after the one mile of being in touch with you - obviously visual only...
you were gone and checked out!
    per Brad!
    3rd party witness MEISTER!!!
    go baby go!!!
    wheels up!
    flaps up!
    you were going balistic!!!

so I get all this today on the phone...
    and I tell Brad...
Brad, do you remember the guy that can't hear very well cause he flew F-15's for 20+ years and he gave you a RIDE in his car that Saturday night after the steaks at casa de Butler?
    Yeah...
well the guy that passed you like you were standing still...
was the very one and only Jim (aka - Meister)...
the same guy that gave you a ride in his car that night...
    no way!!!
oh, you have got to tell everyone on your forums!!!
small world meister - and good thing he was friend and not foe (aka chp)...
hope you had a great time at GIFO Meister!!!
you made an impression on the way home...
    hehehehe

Great story Chris. Also, the reason everything thinks he has a CA plate and not AZ is the color. It's an AZ veterans plate which looks sorta like a CA plate.

    MEISTER RULES!!!
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely...but rather to skid in broadside thoroughly used up, totally worn out, loudly proclaiming, "WOW, What a ride!"

LOL Jim... you know how I feel about this kind of freeway driving, but damn man, if I had to do it with someone, you'd be the guy I'd trust.

The GIFO was a great time. It was simply awsome to see Jim and his son Mike. I can just see those two in the car comin up in the rear view... the same goofy grin on their faces...too funny guys.

    Thanks for sharin C

    sir,
everyone is entitled to their own opinion...
after driving my car back from Michigan to San Diego and seeing how bad traffic is and around Chicago where you live...
the only place you can possibly drive "fast" is on a track...
    out here in the west...
    ask vvv90 (chicago boy)...
we have plenty of expanse to stretch one's cars legs so to speak...
    the interstate in question...
is 4 lanes wide on each side...
and 45 minutes above the grapevine it is wide open and sparsely populated...
my friend Brad was in the fast lane and properly moved over to let my wingman and good friend Meister by without even remembering he was in the car less than 4 months ago...
the 6-9 cars were spread out over the 4 lanes and over a mile of distance...
it's not like he was running up on someone's bumper and then cutting noses off...
    a. that's not meister...
    b. that's unsafe...
    c. and on a 12+ hour drive - you are going to "slalom" through traffic more than once...
there is nothing more aggrevating than someone doing 70-75 in the fast lane...
when you come to the west look us up...
    Meister, DanRealtor or myself...
I have turned my keys over to 7 forum members alone on the last 3 months...
and we'll let you earn your "wings" so to speak...
we drive these cars extremely hard and are very respectful of those around us at all times...
we don't go out and just throw down these high end numbers with people around...
like I said you are entitled to your opinion...
    as are we...
we love the LX platform of vehicles and are mindful of actions affect all within the LX community...
you ask a husband and wife that you pass 2 lanes over and then really hit it once you are by and with no traffic ahead and turn triple digits...
(DISCLAIMER) ALL WOMEN! - DO NOT TAKE THIS STATEMENT AS SEXIST!!! AS ALL OF YOU THAT FREQUENT HERE ARE THE 1 OUT OF TEN!!!
the woman will say 9 times out of ten - oh my goodness! how irresponsible!
the man - will sit there and wish he was in the seat of that car doing what we do...
we love to create "fantasies" for others to dream about while on the road...
    happy and safe motoring ALWAYS!!!
    Sincerely,

Before judging those on I-5..... drive it once.
80 mph is going with the flow of traffic, you'll get passed constantly at that speed.
Not everyone on "the" I-5 is from CA, so some think that 70 or 75 is "fast" and you end up using both lanes quite often.
On I-5 you have two choices...... get blown away going just 70, or do 80+ and end up with some slalom action.
I-5 is not your average highway.... it's a blast to drive.

Heading south on the 5 you need something to drive away the boredom, it is a great concrete expance with plenty of visual range ahead and behind. There is one famous stretch where they have signs posted bragging (I think it is anyways) about the number of drivers licenses that were taken away in that area over the past year.

People drive fast on that road, I typically hit the cruise control at 85 and get passed regularly by faster moving traffic.

    Which is it cbutler32??

p.s. next trip out, drive 1 1/2 hrs. north of Chicago to flat empty Wisconsin roads with no one for miles and no intersections. Just flat 'git it an' go'. Oh, and twistys too. Wings for everybody!
