Lets have a new CAI MFO.
RotoFAB
TEcho
Bwoody
RDP
and of course, the Airhammer for comparison.
Or we can also use all of the old ones too and incorporate tuning with them now that we have it.
We're down for this, keep me in the loop

Not sure this is at all on the vendors.
We need all the intakes to go to one person and tested. Its a long process, but its more dependent on if CV is able to take the time and effort to do so.
That is how the MFO's have worked, so I dont think it will be an issue getting the intakes, but moreso everything else behing the scenes, so its not as easy as it seems.
And yes, it has been talked about and still is.
I just want to know which intake is the loudest......I don't care about performance.
Snake oil I tellz ya!

I hear ya guys...
Techco contacted me and said they're interested. Nothing beyond that yet.
RDP has declined, so I'm working with a vendor to try and get one anyway.
C&L needs to be contacted again to see if they're interested.
Bwoody needs to be contacted to see if they're interested.
I would need an AirHammer to borrow as I no longer have mine.

Questions: what motors/mod combos? I'm thinking bone stock 5.7, bone stock 6.1, and an exhaust modified version of either. I'm also thinking about tuning...
I don't want to get too much more crazy than that. I think between the intakes already listed, the car combos and perhaps the tuning, we're looking at at least one full day, if not two. You guys up for contributing a combined $1-1.5k ish again to really do this right?
I'd be in!
I have the exhaust only 5.7![]()

I would rather not see stock engines again. It seems to me that stock engines are becoming a minority among the active members here. However I do recognize that tuning is an issue. If all of the tests are done on the same car(s) then the exact state/brand of modification should not be critical. Unless someone wants to claim that a CAI works better with a particular head/cam.
So I would say take a Fri'ed 5.7 and a Inertia 6.1 and have Bob tune them with a stock airbox and then use that as the baseline.
For the testing, there are two issues that need to be tested, increased air flow and heat resistance. The traditional MOFO only tested for air flow. However, my personal experiences and that of many others suggest that heat resistance may be more important.
Although it could be debated, I don't think that heat resistance is all that important unless you are at the track and in the staging lanes and flow is not important unless you are at WOT.
I would hypothesize, supporting that with my own datalogging, that with ambient temps below 60* and any care given to getting rid of heat, like opening the hood, that there is little difference. On the other end of the scale, above 95*, nothing is good enough. The data upon which this hypothesis is based is the ambient to ACT differential at staging and at the end of the run.
Thus, to test heat resistance, I would want to see ambients of around 80*, a repeatable underhood temperature to start, both fans running and a consistent idle period in the staging lanes. Since the same car is used for each series of tests, I think these are the variables of concern.
I will again support the project as I have in the past if I am convinced that we are conducting a fair test.

Just to take a quick second... I've got a few PM's regarding the dollar figure I threw out there... this is an excerpt from the Mods Face Off Q&A thread that explains why things cost what they do:
So in this case (and without yet considering tuning costs or Don's suggestion and what it means in terms of required dyno time), we're looking at what...5 intakes and 2 or 3 cars? Plug back into the formula from above, reorder for clarity and we get: 6mins * 3 pulls per mod for averaging purposes * 3 cars time and we're right around 60 minutes or so per intake (allowing for slippage which always occurs). At $1.25 per minute we're looking at around $75 to test each intake. We have 5 intakes plus a baseline, so that'd be 6*75, or $450. And then we have three cars to swap on and off the dyno, so throw in around 45 mins, or $60ish and we end up at right around $510 at a minimum.Originally Posted by MFO Q&A
And if you look at the time required, we're looking at right around 7 hours with this plan.
Now consider the ideas Don has raised, as well as tuning time and costs AND an additional mod or two we're bound to add to all this... and I think $1 - 1.5k in labor/dynotime/tuning is a safe number.
Now consider the parts we need to buy...![]()
Adds up quick guys![]()
