Mods Face Off Result: Billet Technology Intake

Mods Face Off Result: Billet Technology
This intake has an interesting story associated with it. MattRobertson has already done a great writeup on all the stuff that went down at the MFO6, so no need to rehash here.

I will say however that this intake got a whole lot of attention at the event. Its basically a collection of good looking and quality parts that can be color matched, will yield a nice sound, help with the power numbers a little bit... and can be had for 1/2 the price (or better) than every other intake we tested at the MFO6. In terms of bang for buck, this intake stole the show.

    Mod Tested: Billet Technology Intake
    Date: 12/4/08 - 12/5/08
Dyno Location: SVS R&D, Sacramento CA
Track Location: Sacramento Raceway, Sacramento CA <--CANCELED DUE TO FOG

***Remember to always review and keep in mind the Mods Face Off Testing Methodology Q&A while reviewing these results.***

    THE GOOD:
    • Its good looking, its good sounding and even helps in the power department... and its cheap!
    • The BT made 7 peak hp and 3 peak trq on a stock SRT. It also made 5 peak hp on a lightly modded 5.7.
    THE BAD:
    • Its hard to knock a system like this given its price. However one issue that was raised is related to the question of "Why is it that the BT did better than the Frankentake?" Its been proposed that the BT might be using a filter that has less pleats and/or is less dense than the Frankentake used. This is good for power and to help keep costs down, but it might not filter as well? We've never evaluated filter effectiveness though, so this is pure speculation.
    • Because of how things shook down at the MFO6, BT asked us to pull their intake from testing on the third car. We did and so we don't have numbers for it on a modified SRT.
    • On a lightly modded 5.7 the BT lost 1 peak trq over baseline.
    THE NUMBERS:

    THE GRAPHS:
Baselines are in blue. The Billet Tech is in red

    COMPARISONS:
The BT is green in these charts

    COMMENTS:
Well what can ya say? This is a design pioneered by MattRobertson some years ago that is finally getting some professional and proper treatment. In the hands of a company like Billet Tech, I think the intake we once called Frankentake has finally come to life. At a price of less than 1/2 the competition, and with the color matching treatment BT offers, if sound and looks is your thing, this is your intake.

Looks awfully familiar... I'm glad others are now able to have a quality custom intake without the price and hype of those over-sized tubes.

I'd love to see a MFO on the Frankintake IV since that's what I'm building. I should have all the parts in by next week. I can't wait!
06 300C SRT8. Diablo Predator - 91 perf tune; Motorad 180* T-Stat; Frankintake IV w/velocity stack mod, chilly air mod. Soon to add the ONLY Australian Blits Bodykits front end in America. Only 18k miles!

Best we have so far are results from Matt's car: 7hp/10tq

Frankentake IV has been Dyno'd, and ...

If another MFO happens, I'd gladly offer my R/T to test my FIV.

Whoah! Is that over the Frankintake III !!!

If so, I'm glad I've almost got my Frankintake IV almost ready for prime time. Only still waiting for the velocity stack to arrive!

Oh, one other thing- do you recommend the Diablo 91 perf tune or the 91 perf tune w/CAI when running an other wise stock SRT8?

Hey guys, I'm getting confused as to which CAI is the best for a near-stock SRT8? What the heck is a "AE Carbon S2 Complete"? I have a 2009 Charger SRT8. I HAD a 2007 SRT8 and had the AirHammer intake on it along with the Predator 93CAI tune. At the time, it was the best performing of the group. Do they still exist? Are they still the top dog? Have they been surpassed in the performance department?

Any advice on getting the best bang for the buck intake would be appreciated. AirHammer WAS the best, but it was also the most expensive. If there are other similar-performing alternatives that are less expensive, I'm all ears.

    Thanks!
