Mods Face Off Result: AEcarbon's AE Full Intake System (AEFIS)

Mods Face Off Result: AEcarbon's AEFIS

Mod Tested: ae carbon's AEFIS (AE Full Intake System)
    Date: 12/4/08 - 12/5/08
Dyno Location: SVS R&D, Sacramento CA
Track Location: Sacramento Raceway, Sacramento CA (Canceled due to weather)

***Remember to always review and keep in mind the Mods Face Off Testing Methodology Q&A while reviewing these results.***

    The Good:
    • This is a promising design. Both the intake tube and the box have a lot of thought behind them.
    • The "finished carbon" version of the intake tube is a very well-laid piece.
    • The AEFIS is available in two stages, and the box is reported to work with other brands of tube intakes.
    • Since the Stage 1 kit will come with filters supplied from Airflow Innovations, the filter comes in various color options, allowing customization of your engine bay in a new and pretty cool way.
    The Bad:
    • The unit supplied to us for testing is rightly to be called a prototype. It was not (at the time of testing) a production-ready unit.
    • The unit did not fit in the engine bay of our test Magnum (and will not, until significant changes are made). Fit in a 300C was not verified, and remains to be seen.
    • Our unit did not come with installation instructions.
    • The installation of the Stage 2 kit requires removal of radiator shrouding on the driver's side of the car.
    • Hard answers as to the differences between this unit and what may be available in the future are as of yet unavailable.

    COMMENTS:

The AEFIS was alternately called "ready to market" and "prototype" in the weeks leading up to, and even during the event. The fact of the matter, in the eyes of the ones doing the testing, was that the supplied unit was not production ready; and as such should not have been included in the MFO, which has always been a venue only for products on the market.

However, the unit was tested, in various configurations. The reasoning behind why this was the case has been explained HERE and HERE.

As a result of being provided with a unit that was not production ready, the results of the tested unit are not being included in the official results. They are, however, valid results - as long as one understands and keeps in mind the information concerning the testing of this particular unit, and the fact that changes between this unit and what will be available for sale are likely, if not necessary.

Everything you see below is what they call structural (or paintable) carbon. They plan to also offer these kits in finished carbon, as seen on their own threads.

This black plastic baffle is the piece that must be removed in order to use the air scoop (though it is NOT necessary to remove the fascia in order to remove the baffle - this one was already off):

I can compare the dampening to my brother's new E550, except that the Mag seems to corner better as well."

Maybe I wasn't as brutally honest as I thought I was... All you aecarbon dudes are thanking me - I wasn't trying to be harsh, but I was making sure to point out the flaws we found too...

Anyway, I think you guys have the potential for a great product, and if you get it refined and get the bugs worked out, you'll do well with it. It needs a lot of work, but I've seen the other things that have come out of that shop, and if this AEFIS ends up as well-made as what I've seen, you'll do well.

Nope, we are thanking you for your honesty and your and others' time. The more feedback we get the better the end product will be. And you can definitely count on dyno, track, and heat testing of our intake of the exact production unit. We knew the parts we sent had some issues and we've been working to resolve them and test fit on all 3 vehicles since then. We will continue to push forward to release this intake and produce horsepower for LX vehicles.

Is there a time table when this will be in production and ready for sale.

Were taking pre orders for this unit so you can be the first on your block to have one (and the strip)
