Mods Face Off 6 (MFO6): All Pre Event Details Here

    Ok then, here we go!

    DECEMBER 4 - 6 ~ SVS R&D ~ SACRAMENTO RACEWAY

Back by popular demand, the Mods Face Off 6 is here! This three plus day event will see the MFO series of tests returns to its roots; intakes intakes and more intakes.

Whats a "MFO?" What the heck is this business?
Not sure what the Modifications Face Off is? (sometimes called "MFO" or "MoFO")? Be sure to read this Q&A: Mods Face Off Testing Methodology Q&A

What are you testing this time?
Intakes intakes and more intakes. This time around, we're testing intakes we haven't tested yet, including at least three brand new to the market products, you aint seen yet.

Also we'll be testing a 90mm throttle body on a 392 stroker, with and without tuning and with and without an upgraded intake. More on this later.

See the second post in this thread for an up to the minute listing and test schedule.

    How do I contribute?
The fact of the matter is, without financial contributions, we don't have a test. You're donations are critical to being able to pull off these tests. If you're even mildly interested in a mod we plan to test, and/or in the results, and/or just want to help a good thing, please see the third post in this thread to see our complete financial picture and contribute to our efforts.

What do I get for my contribution?
To be really clear, all results are made available to everyone (both the summary charts and graphs I come up with as well as the raw data and its reader). YOU DO NOT NEED TO CONTRIBUTE TO ENJOY THE RESULTS!

However there has been talk of some killer items ("swag") being donated in order to enable a silent auction. When you financially donate, you'll specify to me privately which item you're "bidding" on with your donation. I'll keep a private list for each item and if you end up being the high bidder, you win that item. See the third post in this thread for up to the minute details regarding the "MFO6 Silent Auction"

    Can I come play?
Of course! The MFO has always been, and always will be open to everyone. We've had people from all over the country come join and take part in these historic tests. You can too! Come watch us run intake after intake on Bob Crespo of SVS R&D's dyno Thursday Dec 4rd, and/or Friday Dec 5th. Then come join us Saturday 12/6 at Sacramento Raceway and run with us at the track while we test some of the most interesting intakes as found the previous two days. And of course, there's the after hours "tests" we run...

Where do you plan to stay over? Any "group rate" on hotels?
We have in the past arranged for a "group rate" at a hotel for our event. We will NOT be doing that again as it, quite frankly, added huge amounts of stress on the part of the planners. Sorry guys, but we're working stiffs just like you and we need to keep this whole thing as simple as we can. Therefore, you're on your own.

I will be staying close to SVS R&D, at the Radisson. Its within walking distance to lots of food and uh... and a suitable watering hole is on site, should the mood strike.

There's no way I can make it there in person. Any other way to keep up to date?
Last time we opened up a chat room and did a live webcast video feed. I'm looking into doing this again. No promises though. Keep an eye on post four in this thread for updates and instructions on how to log in (should I be able to pull it off).

What else is there to know about all of this?
What? All that aint enough? Ok then, here's some miscellaneous info
    • It seems like we've done intakes to death, and I think we have. But the market has seen some real advances since our last round and some manufacturers are claiming huge things. The timing seems right to put the rubber to the rollers and VHT, and see whats what for ourselves.
    (More to come)

    SILENT AUCTION ITEMS
Airflow Innovations has donated our test unit for auction! See details of the Aria here: ARIA "M" air intake product overview

    ..Bid item name = "Aria"

Cam has offered up a Billet Tech catch can as part of the auction. Click the pic for a larger version.

..Bid item name = "Catch Can"

    SILENT AUCTION DETAILS
Everyone who contributes to the MFO financially is entitled to bid on any one item listed above. If a member wishes to bid on a second item, that member must make two separate contributions. When you contribute, please specify your LXForums username and the name of the item you're bidding on. For example, when I click "Send Money" within PayPal, I can add a "Subject" to the payment. In that Subject box, I would specify "CoolVanilla" and "WidgetX", if WidgetX is the name of an item for bid.

The member who bids the most on any given item, wins the item (shipping via insured UPS ground to the lower 48 included. Anywhere else / any faster is ok, but we'll need to work out additional shipping charges.). Bids will no longer be accepted after 12/2 11:59pm Pacific.

ALL BIDS SUBMITTED ARE CONSIDERED CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MFO AND ARE NOT REFUNDABLE REGUARDLESS OF THE AUCTION OUTCOME! These are contributions first, and bids second. Once you send those funds, they're counted on by us and become part of our budget.

**To those who have already contributed, please send me a PM indicating you'd like to apply your contribution amount to the item listed. You're welcome to change the item you're bidding on also, as well as add more funds in another contribution. Just shoot me a PM and keep me posted on your intentions. I'll keep a private list and after the MFO the winners will be announced and their item(s) shipped.

    SWAG
LXForums / Modern Mopar Muscle has stepped up and put together a swag bag for all contributors (minimum $10 contribution). Take a look:

All currently on the list who wish to claim their bag, please PM me your shipping address. I will note by your name with an asterix to indicate I've received your info. If your name doesn't have a * next to it, you wont be getting your swag!

All new contributors please include your shipping address with your contribution. Same deal as above with the asterix.

This is independent of the silent auction. All contributors who donate $10 or more will receive the above! Thanks LXF / MMM!!!

    DONATION INSTRUCTIONS
    We're collecting now! Please contribute!!

The best way for us to collect funds is if you donate them via PayPal. If you have a PayPal account click here for the email to use (please be sure to include your screen name in the title or desc). If you do not have a PayPal account, or if would prefer to pay via a different method, indicate as such in a PM to me and I'll provide a mailing address.

    FINANCIALS SUMMARY

    DONATIONS COLLECTED TO DATE: $1735!!

    FINANCIALS EXPLAINED
Here is a quick breakdown of the costs we're looking at to pull this off. Lets consider the 8 already confirmed intakes, tested across three cars of varying engine/mod levels (TBD), each requiring a baseline dataset. This is a rough guess just to give a somewhat fair look at what a test event like this costs.

Dyno time runs us right around $1.25/minute. This is charged regardless of if the rollers are rolling or not, and includes all labor involved with getting the cars on and off the rollers, help with getting the intakes installed, car lifted (if required) etc. Basically, for $75/hour we're getting a state of the art dyno, its operator and a couple helpers for as long as we need, regardless of how many pulls are made. In other words, we're getting a freaking steal.

Hundreds of pulls worth of experience says each pull plus enough cooling time runs right at around 6 minutes.

3 pulls per mod is our goal.

    6minutes per pull * 1.25 per minute = $7.50 per pull

    3 pulls per intake * $7.50 per pull = $22.50 per intake

    8 intakes * $22.50 per intake = $180 per engine/mod combo

1 baseline dataset per engine/mod combo = $22.50 per baseline

20 minutes to get car on rollers/setup dyno instrumentation * $1.25 per minute = $25 per engine/mod combo dyno setup time

15 minutes of intake removal and install time (average guess??) * $1.25 per minute = $18.75 intake removal/install time

    8 intakes to install/remove * $18.75 per intake/removal = $150 total intake removal/install time
    __________
Add the bolds and we need $380 (rounded) to get the car on the rollers, our baseline data, 8 intakes removed/installed and tested on one engine/mod combo.

    If we shoot for 3 engine/mod combos, we'll need 3 * 380 = $1140
By the way, thats roughly 15 hours of dyno time, or two full days.

So 1140 is the bare bottom minimum we need to hit in financial contributions to make this happen. Ideally, I'd like to see another $300 - $500 beyond that to allow for gas refills, to be able to offer the donor cars an oil change, cover water or even lunch for the guys busting their ballz to make that schedule happen...

Edit* Pics reduced to links to avoid long thead load time

Here is a new Bwoody. Looks Interesting.

    Link for product http://bwoodyperformance.com/product...roducts_id=366

    And a new PPP one!

    http://www.premiermotoring.net/cgi-b...l?p_catid=2327

The True Flow XDi differs from the standard True Flow Intake as it is constructed from podwer-coated aluminum with direct bolt-on applications including, podwer-coated mandrel bent tube and nylon reinforced silicone couplers. The direction of the air filter is changed so the air flows from inside-out fo the filter. This "inverted air flow technology" increases air flow by over 50%! By doing this, True Flow is able to deliver peak gains of 27 horse power and 62 foot pounds of torque in applications requiring greater airflow than the factory intake is capable of. The mammoth 5" inlet roars to life when you're on the throttle and is subtle in everyday conditions.

Andy said he'd send that True Flow XDi out to us for inclusion, after they're done with their own testing - he just needs to know where to send it. I sent PM's and I'm waiting to hear from the organizers about this one.

I don't know if it's already one of the "mystery intakes" or not.

    uh...

    ok I'll say something useful:

Regarding the two intakes Leadfootluke put up, both look interesting.
    • The bwoody is pointing right smack down perfectly into the ambient air pocket created by the lower baffle mod. And its a nice big filter. This was what I was going to make with Frankentake IV but never did. The elbow looks sketchy.
    • The XD intake looks to have a heat shield sorta kinda wrapped around its oiled foam filter. That could be big on the plus side. But its only sucking in air from that hole on the end. But its from a venturi.
Plusses and minuses. Only way to tell is to put them to the test, but 9 intakes = more time and more money. I'm in for a few bucks as usual.

CV... we need sponsorship levels like last time? Or are you doing the "silent action" for all of it? I have enough crap hung off my car I think, unless you get some really, really cool stuff to give away.
