    wax on...wax off...

will a clay bar remove all the wax if it was applied 3 weeks ago? I want to try Mcquires NXT wax so I'm looking for the best way to remove the wax I already have on the car. Thanks!

Wash the car with a high concentration of Dawn Liquid soap...strips waxes and polishes right off. Your clay won't really do much. Mix about 2-3 oz in 2 gals. of water should be plenty. Wash twice, or just really thoroughly to be sure. Car finish should squeak just like the dishes in the commercials when all the wax is off.

yes, but regular liquid dishsoap will do the trick as well, with less hassle then the claybar

washing with dish washing detergent is ok once in a blue , but not recomended , claying and using a "paint cleaner" would be the correct way to remove any "wax"..
then start fresh with a polish like Meguiars#07 , then your choice of LSP, Last Step Product, such as the Meguirs Next Generation Tech Wax as u mentioned, or Zainos as some other may prefer..

    Thank You Haz

I would have to agree with bookeem on this one, using dish detergent is not a good idea.

not a good idea all the time anyway, mainly because it strips the oils out of the paint, thats the real issue here. Just this once should be ok though. Definitely do not make this a habit.

Zaino recommends Dawn Dishwashing as a first step - works like a champ, great suds, bugs come right off - oh right, and all the wax too!

Couple of layers of Zaino after the claybar (use the claybar too!) and you'll be rockin!

The clay bar has an entirely different purpose than the car wash, or dish soap. The Clay Bar does NOT remove the wax... it is designed to remove fine particulants (pollutants) that have embedded in the wax or clear coat. Even if you use the dish soap, you still need to follow with the clay bar, then rewash and use a paint cleaner to restore the depth and luster of the paint and clear coat. Follow the paint cleaner with your waxes or paint sealant.

Last weekend I did exactly what you want to do. I did not need clay bar since the finish still was very smooth to the touch. Went to Meguiar's web site and spent some time checking things out. Then hit AutoZone.
    1. Washed the car like always (Mr Clean SpotFree System)
2, Used Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner (this WILL remove the wax and also any surface imperfections that were there but not bad enough to require claying)
    3. Used Meguiar's Deep Crystal Polish
    4. Used Meguiar's NXT Liquid wax
The car looked fabulous and I was freakin' exhausted (workin' your way around a Magnum 4 times is a lot of rubbin'!
Get yourself a cheap 6-pack of cotton applicators so if you drop one you can just grab another. Have plenty of clean towels ready for buffing. You have to wipe of the paint cleaner and the polish BEFORE they dry so towels will eventually start to lose absorbency.
My Mag is Magnesium Pearl. Meguiar recommended the Deep Crystal products for dark colors and the NXT for all clear-coat finishes.

    Have fun!
