I second that. 7424 thru meguiars gives lifetime warranty and their products are great. Just used clay, then #80, then tek wax. It was harder to clay, the rest was easy with the buffer( I never used one before, but I'll never wax by hand again!) Pick up the dvd, a little long winded but if you ff there's a lot of great info for a noob(me). Can get the 7424 at other sites cheaper(some are reconditioned), but I got a package deal. BTW, have a black Mag and I am OCD big time.

Is also a good place to look.

The PC 7442 and 7336 are the same unit just slightly differnt packaging. You can also look for a Dewalt with the same specs, there is talk that it may have a bit stronger motor than the PC's ( I have a PC )

    FOr basics I use the

    Smooth Surface Clay Kits
2 9006 pads ( at least 1 for each kind of wax you want to play with no mixing, also show Car Glaze is applied with this pad)
3 8006 Pads These are your work horse pads for paint cleaning and light polishing ( #80 and #83 )
1 7006 Pad - Never sees paint, you use this pad with MF bonnets for removing WAX

Product : #80 #83 #21 ( or nxt liquid wax ) #7 Show Car Glaze ( those special times like shows etc )

Those would be the basics, if you have some nasty scratches to get out use some Scratch X on Foam Applicator Pads lots of ork, but does a great job.

    MF towels by the bundle
Maybe a Grit Guard for washing

    Good luck !

Meguiars G-100 is the same as the porter cable, but with lifetime warranty. Worth looking into for that reason. The PC's are harder to find in stores now.

I tried to find one at Lowes and Home Despot and they said they had been discontinued, at least for sale in retail outlets. If you're forced to buy online, you might as well get the lifetime warranty.

    I love mine!

I found a PC 7336 refurbished thru Amazon for $90 to the door.

Personally, I wouldn't buy refurbished electronics, but I've bought a few refurbished tools here and there and have never had a single problem. The one I got doesn't even have so much as a scratch on it and you'd thinkn it was new if not for a sticker they put on the handle.

And a second on getting the DVD. It is VERY long winded (I really didn't need to see him do all 4 applications of Scratch X by hand), but was very informative. I was a little leary about using a buffer for the first time, but not after seeing how easy it is.

Porter Cable. I got mine for around $100 at a local tool supply. And get a good selection of "quality" pads and cleaner. Take care of the pads and the last a loooong time. And of you want some accessories (bonnets, wash mitss) check out DFTowels.

All the meguirs stuff I use on the 8006 pads are water soluble ( #80 #83 #7 ) I wash out by hand for the heavy stuff, then do a gental wash with just a little dawn in the washer.

Any wax or sealant is typically not water soluble and wont wash out real well, I take an old rag and press out any excess and spin it on the rotory and clean it with a rag and a finger. If you feel you have to wash it use a strong mix of DAWN to hand wash out the pad and do a machine wash with dawn as well.

Cleaning pads is a right bastard

I would be careful on the washer. I know I am not alone with having the pad fall apart right where it meets the Velcro back. Meg's does not recommend using the washer.
