    Luandry Soap?

Went to wash the 300 this weekend and had run out of my usual car wash soap. Looking around i found some dawn,,,and tide liquid detergent were my options. I know dawn is supposed to help remove some of the wax buildup prior to claying (which ill be doing in another week after moving into the new house. Four car garage ,,,,woohoo!!!!!!!) Not wanting to strip the shine just yet,,i opted for the tide.
Im so excited to finally have a proper parking spot with two bays to spare!!
I notice while washing that the tide had a slick, lubricant like feel, more so than any car wash product ive used. I wondered if that wouldnt be the ticket when it comes time to clay. Finally having a spacious area to work on and clean the ride is going to be so sweet!!
Any pros or cons that anyone knows of with laundry soap! I thought i was ready to slide bar once i roll the car into its new home, i'll be using spray n shine,,but do have my fears since this will be my first claying experience. (Did i mention the four car garage??)
Let me know what you all think

Oh my don't do that anymore! The detergents in laundry soap are very harsh and have additives that could remain on the paint after you have hosed it off. It's better to NOT wash than to use laundry soap. Spend a few dollars and get a gallon of Megs Gold SHampoo and Wash. You can find it at Target, PepBoys, Walmart, Costco....everywhere!

Some think it is the thing to do and clay and wax right after. I don't buy that. I think if you clay and polish you remove all the wax.

That's the right process and it takes me about 7 hours when I clay.

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

    Hey cnote,
I would agree with the others...don't go there with the "Soap Thing" I have just clayed both of my vehicles, a 2005 Inferno Red Magnum, and my 2005 G.M.C Sierra. The G.M.C had a major acid rain like thing goin on...but two days later, I was right back to the clear coat as good as the day it was new. Before you "Clay" the surface...make sure your car is clean...you can use any Spray-and Shine product because there mostly the same..water infused with wax. Spray about a two foot area liberaly with the Spray-and-Shine and lightly and rapidly pass the clay over the surface. You can sort of feel when you have done enough, cuz it gets slippery as "Snot on a door knob". When you are done...rinse the painted surface with clear water and towel dry. (I use real baby diapers and they wont fine line scratch the surface). Then use a polish, not a wax..as polish is designed to seal and protect the surface. Wax is more to clean the surface..as you have already done with the clay.I used the Mothers California Gold Clay Set and found it to work very well. I use Meguiars polishes and wax and found them to be very good. WHAT EVER YOU DO...DONT DROP THE CLAY ON THE GROUND AS IT WILL PICK UP THE SMALLEST PARTICLES OF DIRT AND SCRATCH THE CRAP OUT OF THE PAINT !!!!! Hope this helps......

I saw a guy wash his mint 66 Mustang with powder Spic & Span. That was the best looking wet sanding job I have ever seen!

The Magnum has a soul. It has a personality, something all too lacking in the automotive transportation appliances everybody else is offering.

Try this, get some car soap and rewash the car. Then, clay it while using spray detailer as the lubricant. (I'm sure you already know this.) If you have any swirl marks in the paint, use Maguiars #83. It will remove the spider webs and then wax. Your car will be so shiny you'll have to wear shades to look at it.
