Question Drying car with leaf blower?

I 've heard of some guys drying their cars with leaf blowers. Anybody here do this? How well does it work?

More trouble than it's worth in my opinion, at least for me. Going to the shed and gassing up and starting that dang blower is a PITA. The blower at the touchless works pretty good, would be perfect if they made a second drying pass.

California water blade and a good microfiber work well when I'm washing at home by hand.

I have heard of this also but I have never tried it. My leaf blower takes a long time to get up to speed. By the time it was where it could move air well enough the car would have dried on it's own. Waffle weave is the way to go.
The softest that I have used is this one.

    Nah, not for me.
Blades and microfibers for my ride.

I'd want some kind of a filter on it to be sure it wasn't throwing any grit at the paint. Not to mention the dust it might kick up from the ground.

    I agree with F1fan.

My leaf blower blows at 200mph. A lot of bad things can happen.

The Magnum has a soul. It has a personality, something all too lacking in the automotive transportation appliances everybody else is offering.

I second this, it works great. Better than using a blower that my let go some dust and throw it at your car like a sandblaster. Probably faster too.

i use one , my vacuum of course will be out by the car , to vacuum the interior first, as i like to do, and the leaf blower detaches right from the top of my shop vac, i go over the car with the water blade, use the leaf blower to blow the water out the cracks and crevices, then give it the final drying with a meguiars water magnet(waffle weave)...

    Thank You Haz

So that was one of the things I was thinking about... A blower's not bad if the air is filtered, which it is out the vacuum. However, there would be fine particles that do make it out the exhaust of a vacuum even, that I'd be concerned about.

Many leaf blowers are also vaccuums, which means the fan sucks up crap that could be spit back out, if some of it sticks to the fan for while.

So it's probably not a bad idea as long as you're not using something that also sucks dust and dirt without good filtering.

Bad enough having to drive the highway, never mind doing it yourself.

Don't think I'll be doing it anytime soon. Besides, I don't find that the car wash blowers do that great a job anyway. The California Blade works really well for most of it, then I towel the rest off.

Makita makes a nice portable, rechargeable blower that has gotten high marks in earlier posts. It blows less than 200 and I've been considering picking one up for the cracks and crevices, but still leaving the water blade for the large flat surfaces... following Mr Clean autodry of course.

I use my leaf blower lower setting exclusively for the car. First, use microfiber rags to dry the visible parts, then the blower on the cracks/seams/moulding/mirrors to get the extra water out. Works great!
Then follow up with the rags again to complete the drying.
No more water streaks after driving off. Love it!

    And the blower is electric

I use a 24V rechargeable blower in conjunction with a Cali water blade and microfiber towels. It's great for getting water out of the cracks and has trigger speed control. A big asset IMHO................
