does size matter? PC question of course

I am planning on asking Santa for a PC orbital buffer for Christmas. I've searched and read a lot of articles including this one
    http://forums.roadfly.com/forums/det...1430487&page=1

The article recommends using the model with a 6" counterweight and 6" pad (model 7336); however, most detailing vendors all sell the less expensive model with the 5" counterweight and 6" pad (model 7424).

This article is very imformative and they aren't selling anything so to me it is a lot more unbiased than the info I'm finding on vendor sites. Any thoughts? Recommended vendors for purchasing a PC and/or pad kits?
    Thanks

I bought the Dewalt 443 DA and love it. It is a bit more powerfull than the PC.
I have been really happy with Autogeek.net . I know they are having a big sale right now on the PC and pads.

If you are new to using a machine to plish and wax the expert opinion is to purchase the PC 7424. I bought one last summer and love it! I have the 6" pads and they are great! The folks at autogeek.net are a great source for all your needs and their prices are excellent. The sale price they have right now for the PC7424 is as inexpensive as you can get it. I never purchased a counterweight, as it comes with one installed. I think I paid $113 shipped from an ebay tool dealer

As for pads...unless you need to do some serious paint restoring...stick with the finishing or polishing pads. Do not waste your $$ with cutting pads.

    My suggestion:

    PC 7424
    2 white pads
    2 gray pads
    one backing plate
3+ of the softest microfiber towels you can get! Cobra Extra Plush Jr.!!!

Apply by machine but remove by hand. There are some great products out there that make this method easy! Let me know if I can help.

    thanks guys

Are the colored pads you mentioned specific to a brand? The other thing that confuses me is the diameter of the pads relative to the diameter of the backing plate. If I get a 6" backing plate, what size pads do I get? I see 5.5" and 6" and 8". The vast selection is confusing to me.

The selection is huge! Here is what I use:

    5" Backing Plate

    6" Pads:

    Microfiber towels

I recommend the XMT or PoorBoys swirl removers. The Poorboys EX-P Sealant will really make the metallic flake pop! Then follow up with PoorBoys Natty's Blue Wax is Great! You should check out the DIY video in the XMT section; really good stuff!

If you order from Autogeek, tell them I sent you. It won't get you a discount but they are supportive of the community. PM if you need any other questions answered.
