Why frown, that's awesome news! It's a bear to tune and cam design is a little tougher but the end result is killer power and killer fuel economy. If the guy really was in a test mule, I'd be inclined to believe him. I have a friend that used to calibrate transmissions for Roush before he left for Honda. I got a ride in a pre-release blown F-150 that he was working on - the instrumentation is insane. He showed me about 150 transmission parameters that he could adjust on the fly w/ the laptop - really, really cool stuff. But anyway, point is, he had the truck over a year before release and same with the Mustangs, and he knew things about the vehicles before the general public had a clue. So, this is potential good news for us. I'd love to see 475 factory horsepower at 24 mpg!!

I thought the 6.4 was going to be 505 hp-i guess with VVT it loses some hp
Think about how stupid the average person is..
Then realize half of them are dumber than that
kind of expected. the VCT was done for emissions, but has HUGE performance potential. it will take time to learn the tuning though.
you loose no hp with VVT, you gain it.
There is no way the 6.4 is going to make 505hp. The mopar crate 392 makes 515hp with a huge cam and cnc ported heads. The cam will be much smaller to pass emmissions and the heads will not be CNC ported. Figure 450hp plus about 20 more for the VVT and you get no more than 475hp IMO.
I might have to trade in my Charger for it.... or maybe not. I'd love to see the new 6.4L come out getting that kind of mileage for that kind of power.

Yep, cars run way ahead of time, friend of mine who tests nav systems for a living has been driving a new Mercedes since last year. But I've suspected that they were going to VVT the bigger motor for some time. My guess is that the VVT 6.1 will be that motors swan song. Then the 6.4 with all the modern stuff like direct injection also.
Someone posted a PDF from Dodge yesterday, "The new dodge" and it had the 6.4L listed with MDS
im holding out for the challenger 1320. heres to hoping the pricing is realistic.
wonder if they will put VCT in that block

That 6.4 VVT MDS '11 is the one you want to get. All the diehard Mopar or no car guys are holding out for that one. If you think about it. this is Fiats only chance to stay in the American Modern Muscle scene because the new Ford 5.0/5.4 is going to be the next coming of the old FE 427's and Foxbody Mustangs before they were neutered and became 4.6 Wustangs. The 3,000lb. SuperStock Challenger proved a 10 second street car can be made for an affordable price. Fiat needs to pretend the wind tunnel hasn't been invented yet and design these new batches of Dodge SRT's to be la combination of a lightweight chassis and cool classic American good looks need to be high on the priority list or risk blending in to the cookie cutter world of Camrys and Altimas. The new Challenger was a good cost effecient try that only gave half ass results because the effort showed. Make it lean,mean and agile at an affordable price and Dodge cars are once again going to ignite the Mopar aftermarket. Just please don't sacrafice coolness for drag efficiency, anyone can do that, but then wheres the character. Just think why the AMerican classics are so feverishly revered. If the Muscle God's hear my plea, may a lean mean 392 6.4 big bad ass Hemi be coming to a showroom near me......
