My Nav in the 300 bitched to me last week about doing an update. (Yes, it actually displayed a URL) So I checked it out, and Garmin wants $150 just for a map update. (You'd think they'd improve the user interface as well...)
Anyone get a line on a better deal, I'm all ears, otherwise I'll just use my smartphone...![]()

Did you just hit an "OK" button and its ok now?
Makes me wonder why they don't provide free map updates like the retail garmins do...

me personally I only update these things every other year at most. sadly with the 8.4 and having the USB port in the center console doing updates to these cars is easier then ever (there's an update out there now that made using the iPod way easier FYI).

This is what pisses me off. You can buy a $99 Garmin unit with the exact same interface as ours and get lifetime maps and traffic on it. The traffic data is broadcast in major cities embedded in radio station transmissions. Yet Chrysler has to use Sirius so you need a subscription for it. I use the traffic on my nav all the time, but I never use the actual Sirius radio channels.
While I'm bitching about the nav, I'll tell you about my other major pet peave on it. I use the maps in "track up" mode on unfamiliar surface streets so that upcoming turns show properly as a right or a left and I don't have to worry about looking at them upside down. But when I'm on the freeway and most daily driving, I use "North up" which keeps the map in the North orientation. The MyGig radios have a button on the screen that takes one press. The REC radios have a hard button that does the same thing. The Garmin takes 9 button presses to switch the damn screen orientation!
I paid $200 last year for an update for my Challenger. Never again, it might be redundant, but I have my Garmin 1450lmt that I slap on the dash with lifetime maps and traffic. It is a CRIME that the interface doesnt allow for at least the lifetime update card.

I totally agree with you Jon... The number of button presses on this system is F'ing ridiculous... They must be smoking crack. There is a shortcut, where it will take you back to the main menu if you press and hold the back arrow, but there's so much more room for improvement.
Another pet peeve I have about this system is how many button presses I have to go through for seat heater control. I miss the buttons. (Cheap bastards)
Also, WTF happened to the mute control?
I actually like my REC's navigation system, better.
I paid $80 for my stand alone Garmin system and it got a free map update. Of course, it just sits around, since I gave back the Journey when I fired my last employer.
