Can I install the lower gears from the V6 models into my RT / 300C? *

**New Info posted further down in this thread**

Can I install the lower gears from the V6 models into my RT / 300C?

    In a word... No.

Unfortunately, the rear axle carriers in the V6 model LX's are different sized then the V8 models. Though, the AWD models are noted to come with the V6 gears.

No aftermarket suppliers have offered any retrofit gears for the RT/300C, but with enough interest, who knows?

This MAY work or it MAY be an expensive mistake. The gears for the AWD are not as robust as the FWD. The reason being it doesnt have to live with as much torque.
Also, instead of swapping gears , swap center sections, this way the backlash, depth, and center are already set and you wont have to lay up under the car doing it..

    And the dead shall walk

Actually, you are making an assumption about the torque handling. That is really not known for sure.

But swapping the whole "pumpkin" would seem to be the best way to approach, but again, it is not known if this will work until someone finds a "badly mis-treated" AWD and trys it.

Fred - You may have a problem doing that as changing only the rear gears would cause you to have your fronts and back turning at differnt speeds. Bad bad things typically happen when you do that.

    OK Updated info on this:

The Diablo Predator now supports serveral aftermarket gear sets for the LX line, be they from the V6, SRT8, Richmond Gear, or the newer LSD Rear Ends from Getrag ( the factory parts for some of the Challengers )

So now the offical answer is YES

I want to install the Richmond Gears 3.55's but nobody, including the dealers, can verify whether or not I have the 198 or 210 differential. Anybody know how to check this? I have 2.82 gears according to my VIN, does that mean I have the 210?
