    Changing tire size

If you change tire size on your car, you need to get someone with a starscan to select a tire as close to the size you have as possible. Unfortunately, the list is limited (as you will see in a minute). Hopefully in a future version of the software DC will decide to go to a larger list or just have you input the tire size.

From the main menu, select "Vehicle Preparation"

Scroll down to the selection called "Program Tire Size"

Select it by touching this selection and then pressing the Start button. Wait until you see how weird this procedure is, makes me wonder if DC engineers have a sense of humor.

    Click next to continue:

A window will appear showing the current tire size selected. Click next to continue:

The next couple of pics are just to show you what is available for selection.

Select the tire that is closest to what you have and click next.

Another message window will come up.

Yeah, I know, I selected continental tires. I was hoping you didn't notice. LOL!

Click next to continue. Here is where it starts to get weird.

Cycle the ignition key off then on again. OK! As soon as you do that this window appears:

At this point the starscan is writing the info to the controller. After a few seconds guess what window comes back?? Yup, time to cycle the key again.

Once you do another window appears letting you know the operation was a success. Odd huh??

Click finish and you are done. It does set a few DTC's and here are the ones that were set during this operation on my car.

Dealer can just click clear all dtc's and they go away. It is from cycling the key off and on.

That is it, your new tire size is programmed into the computer.

actually, these DTCs are set because the TCM does not communicate during the writing process. same thing happens during a flash.

Have we seen anything in there that would raise the speed limiter?

The 255-45-20 are 29" in height and I want 265-35-22 which are 29.3" in height. Would that work if you told them to just program it in as the 20" ones to get it as close as .3" for the 22's? Or does it not work that way?

That would probably work. Using the tire size calculator here on the forums, it shows that the 22s would be .55 mph off at 60 (59.45 vs 60 for the 255/45-20s).

Pick up a Superchips Flashpaq if you have an R/T or 300C and you can change tire sizes to your hearts content.

Could you make a new thread with the Starscan instructions for adding a new TPM sensor because my dealer is clueless. I bought a new rim, TPM sensor and tire for use as a full size spare and asked him to add it to the TPM and he acted like he knew what he was doing but now he tells me it cannot be done.

I think when you actually put it on the car... it will work without starscan intervention. They are VERY short range transimitters.

Drive vehicle for a minimum of 10 minutes while maintaining a continuous speed above 15 mph (24 km/h). During this time the system will learn the new sensor ID code and will clear any DTC's automatically.

i know that nitrogen will lower the amount of times the tire sensor lamp comes on. same reason NASCAR uses nitro.

Is this still vin specific? I have a SE running 20s. I am skating around the end of my warranty (32500) so if this will help me stretch it a lil longer I am all for it.
