    Test Drove an R/T Classic

I went down and looked at and test drove a 2009 R/T Classic. Very nice car! B5Blue is a very nice color, and the ald Cragar style rims look pretty sweet.

Here is the delemma, I can take the R/T or wait for the SRT and pay 10,000 more. I'm planning on turning it into a vert so and extra 10,000 on top of the cost of the conversion puts you up to close to $60,000 and frankly, I'm not sure I need the extra horsepower for my daily driver. Besides $10,000 could buy you a whole lot of mods!

The Two SRT B5's that are comming in are still in D status, or whichever one that means the order was accepted but not planned for build yet, and the dealer said it could be months before their delivered. Both of these have sun roofs, a waste when I have the top cut off. The dealer is getting a silver SRT 8 that should be here in a few weeks, but I really like the blue color.

The thing that is kind of bugging me, and this is going to sound stupid, but there are not radio buttons on the steering wheel. All my recent cars have had radio controls on the steering wheel and I think that will really drive me nuts! LOL.

    Oh the delemma!

Someone here did a control mod. Pretty detailed pics of the whole works... Heck, if you are gonna vert it, just gt the silver, and have it painted... Like you said, no need for too much HP in a daily driver.. There will be others to follow who disagree... You can always mod more HP into it later..... read KENNE BELL SuperCharger here... Good luck. Please report back...

To build a 'vert, I would think the R/T would be a good choice. Clearly a race car is not in your plans. Therefore, the extra power and the extra brakes (IMO, the two biggest plusses for the SRT8) are not needed. The R/T makes good power and all the right sounds.

Are steering wheel controls worth 10-large? As others have said, it can be done afterwards, but I don't miss them one bit on my R/T. I am a big rock-n-roll fan, and I often forget to turn the radio on because I am loving the sound of the HEMI as I go through the gears.

Save the 10K for fun stuff

A good paint job will set him back over $10k! That is a bigger job than you may realize. To really do it right, you have to pull the engine, etc. to really make it look like a factory job. It would be much easier to start with a color you like. Take it from me...

No radio controls on the steering wheel with the R/T's, huh? If it's that big of a deal to you, and you can afford it, you probably won't regret the extra power, brakes, handling, and more exclusive status of the SRT for your project. The SRT seats are awesome, and with the top down, that blue stripe in the SRT seats will look great tied together with the exterior paint!

On the other hand, you have immediate access to a great B5 R/T with wheels you like, and it doesn't sound like you really care about having the slightly higher hp with the SRT... decisions, decisions!

Probably a stupid question but what is the difference between an R/T Classic and a regular R/T ?

I haven't heard of an R/T classic, but then again I'm up in the great white North.

Most noticeable additions are the soft 5-spoke wheels, the R/T side stripes, and the old-style "Challenger" script badges on the fenders. There are a couple other minor changes, but these are easy to spot at a glance.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the stripes! That would definitely look hot as a convertible, with no other changes. Ophthos, I would say go for it NOW- you can get the R/T classic sent off to Florida for the conversion and have it back in time to enjoy it yet this year before the weather turns...

    Oh the delemma!
That sounds like a BX status you are writing about.

BA new order that hasn't been checked/approved BB – fleet order only – review by Bid Department
    BD – special equipment processing
BE – edit error – coding error which must be corrected before the order can be considered for scheduling
BG – order has passed edit but cannot be considered for scheduling
BG F – finance hold – automatic cancellation after 15 days
BG B – model or option hold / build out hold
BG L – material restriction hold
BG M – material hold (fleet)
BX – good order, available for scheduling

(If it's D it will be built.)

D – firm schedule: serial number is assigned.
D1 – gateline: plant has sequenced the unit for production, estimated ship date assigned
D2 – gateline: framing and build imminent, usually within 3-6 days
