I went in to drive an R/T and ended up ordering one.
They told me employee pricing for the challanger is gone, because to many dealerships were complaining about not making enough money. They also said it takes 1-6 months to build. They explained that it depends on allocation. When they sell one, they are re-allocated another one to be built. They did explane if it is flagged sold with someones name it tends to get higher priority.
The salesman joked sayign I wont see it until Christmas.
I find it hard to believe with the big 3 almost bankrupt, slow credit, slow sales, some dealerships going out of business, they shold be willing to sale whatever just to turn some profit. Plus if no one is buying cars, then shouldnt there be plenty of slots for the few that are buying cars to have theirs made immediatly? I understand when I ordered my caliber it was so hot that even with 3 shifts they could not make enough for demand, but when they take extra shutdowns to decrease inventory why dont they have enough build room to make any car that is ordered right away? Have they cut production to much? If that is the case, and they need money, why not increase production to meet the demand? If the demand is so high they are backlogged 6 months, re-start 2nd shift, and get money now.
Makes no sense to me.
