    LY Dodge Should be Boycotted...

Dodge should be Boycotted with their practice of allowing the Dealers for price gouging on the new Challengers. Here I thought this was a illegal practice in the the good ole' USA. Don't they realize that in two to three months the dealers will be loaded up the as@ with the 2009s... Then let them try to even get sticker price. I have been watching the Challenger discussion group here and people are ordering the 2009s for under sticker. All I can say is a "Fool is soon parted with his money." What is everyone else's opinion on this matter...

I definately agree with the spirit of your email becasue I feel likewise. It is my understanding that Dodge cannot control what the dealers sell their cars for. At least that is what Dodge told me when I wrote them an email. Seems to me that since they are supplying the cars, they could have some influence.

I ordered my 2009 Challenger for less than MSRP. Now all I got to do is to get the ride! Actions are stronger than words!!

The reason for the price gouging on the 2008's were basically first kid on the block attitude of having one, along with limited number they were getting produced. I really don't think dealer will be loaded up, they might carry two or three. The way the economy is right along with the price of gas, a dealer could ask for more than the sticker, but then their is an idiot born every minute who will pay the mark-up. Boycotting Dodge isn't going to help, Dodge doesn't own the dealerships, they are contracted thru Chrysler to sell their vehicles.

MSRP-Manufacturer's Suggested retail price. Dodge has no control over their dealers pricing. The dealers have to learn for themselves. When the PT Cruiser came out, dealers were gouging them, and Chrysler begged them not to. People who had never set foot in a Dodge dealership walked in, and quickly walked out. The dealers are making short term profits at the expense of long-term customers. But considering the economy is in the crapper, it's unlikely the dealers will care, as long as they can make a nice profit.

    Come on guys!
    Simple economics: Supply and Demand.

The dealers believe they have a limited supply of a product in great demand.
    This is America.

BeastMaster and Nomad are spot on... 'suggested retail price' along with Supply and Demand says it all... They are praying on the 'sucker' or 'impatient' consumer that wants it 1st. Personally, I wait to drive it as a V6 rental at Dollar in 9 months.

Just boycott the dealers that are doing it. No reason to wreck the industry because there are a few mutts out there that are attempting to screw people.

My dealer for instance has been selling Challengers, '08s and '09s for $500 under sticker and have sold a ton of them. Sure you can buy a minivan for alot more under sticker, but selling under sticker is certainly not price gouging.

There was a dealer on here that said they had an '08 for $15K over, search for the thread and red bean him. Let him know what you think, call the sales manager there and tell them you'd never consider buying anything from their dealership.

If you know someone on these boards, or have a friend that is considering buying one, help them find a dealer that will sell at a fair price instead of letting them buy over sticker. Some people are fools and feel that they have more self worth if they buy a car for $15K over. Just stay out of those peoples way, they are not rational!

Boycott is a strong word to use. If people want to pay extra for the first produced cars then that is thier prerogative. That's just the love of the car for some people. Cheers to them, at least some people got it like that.

^^Can't totally disagree, but they are silly for getting hosed, since there are dealers out there selling them MUCH cheaper.

Good old capitalism. It ain't perfect, but it's still better than any alternative. When I bought my Magnum in Jan of 05 they were scarce and they sold for full sticker price, or higher.

Right now supply is low & demand is high so it will cost you big time to be one of the first. Even the PT Cruisers were selling for rediculous markups when they first hit the streets. I'm sure many dealers lost loyal customers over a short term windfall.

This happens with every product especially new products with limited supply. You may not like it but we have choices and we can vote with our dollars. If you don't want to pay over list then don't but for someone who really wants one and they are willing to pay then I say good for the dealer and good for the customer who has the money.

Suppy and demand and free markets always work. Eventually things work themselves out.

It isn't price gouging. There are plenty of automotive opportunities available to the public. And, if people wouldn't pay it, the dealers wouldn't try it. You should be mad at the idiots paying over MSRP, not the dealers for getting their money.

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?
