    2010 Challenger Rumors....

I haven't heard from my "mole" at Chrysler for quite awhile, and it seemed he/she/it might have been a victim of recent staff cuts....but today I get an e-mail with some juicy rumors for the upcoming 2010 Challenger. REMEMBER THESE ARE ONLY RUMORS! Although his/hers/aliens track record is really good...and even the mole admits that some of these tid-bits are info plants to judge reaction as Chryco has it's prying eyes here as well as other sites...he had some other info for me, but asked that I not say anything until after the NY show in april...
    sooooo...

SE: The entry level car takes a page out of Camaro's play book for 2010, best bang for the buck...1st version of new "phoenix" V6 DI makes it's world debut in the Challenger complete with a 6-speed. Manual. 4.0L and at least 300 h.p. with a hiway mpg target of 28 and a city mpg of 20. Auto versions will have MDS. the SE will also have the 2009 R/T suspension settings and brakes. some interior tweaks as well which may include a preview of the 2010& 1/2 Charger interior( or at least the dash layout)

SRT8 on hiatus to start 2010 but look for it to return in june of 2010 as possibly the SRT392, a limited production street terror with a 6.4L SRT massaged HEMI that will have MDS and won't have a gas guzzler tax. Mole estimates 475 -500 horses with variable cam timing and the 1st use of direct injection in a pushrod engine. an upgraded more agressive suspension will be standard, as will a new Brembo brake system and possibly some real carbon fibre trim. with Viper going away, this car will assume the halo car mantle for now...

R/T will now be available in 2 flavors, standard and R/T with r&t, the latter of which gets most of the current SRT stuff including the current brembos but will have a "hotter" version of the 5.7L engine pushing over 400 horses and 420 ft-lbs to match the Camaro SS... the exciting news is that this performance group could be a stand-alone package, meaning no required leather interior or nav units or etc.etc...Mole tells me that this version might get a different hood, which is basically the MOPAR hood that is available as a dealer installed hood.

All versions will get better fuel economy and all will have some type of MDS, including the Manual equipped versions...and of course Chryco has to survive to see 2010...
Currently: "Vanessa" 2006 Charger R/T with all kinds of little details and a unique red bee stripe... just passed 100k milestone!!!

Dont know about the SRT8 ver. just seems to outta the bracket. With the prices of the Chally now, adding the 10K - 20k to the price, would put it in a class where they could just buy a over all better car.

There are faster, more luxury cars in the 50-60K range.

Just wait for the Camaro to drop, better gas milage, and faster. And dirt Cheap.

By the way the gas on the challys are not good as is, imagin a 392, or a 6.4L in that.

Wouldn't that be any HEMI lovers dream. I could use more power and better fuel economy, right now i get around 15 mpg with mine. It would seem that with D.I. the horsepower in the 392 wouild be a little higher tha 475-500. That would be sufficient with me though. Back in the day there was a gap both financially and performance wise from the R/T and the SRT models, currently they are too close for the money they are charging. THey better keep the price in the mid 40's if they want to compete with Chevy. If this holds true so much for the muscle car war dying off!
Shiny paint, big wheels, powerful engine.

Wow, now I feel bad about not waiting to get one...

    Currently:
MBRP Cat-Back, Predator. Hoping I will get my AEFIS, or atleast some of my money back now

    Future:
Go to save up and work on making the fastest N/A engine out there. Everyone needs goals, no?

    That would be amazing!

My tiny brain can't understand how MDS will work with a manual but, if that means no gas guzzle tax, I'm all for it. We'll all turn that crap off anyway.

Thought the Phoenix V6 was 3.6 liters with about 280 hp?....

The 4.0 from the Nitro wouldn't be a good choice. Not much more power than the current 3.5. The 3.6 should be more powerful with less weight.

With a few changes (exhaust, intake ) i'm sure the numbers would jump OK for the 4.0!

Awesome! I won't even consider selling or trading my 2009 SRT8 but love the news anyway.
