Unhappy 2008 Challenger SRT8 for $30G over sticker!!!!

I stopped into the local Dodge dealer today to see if they were going to get any Challengers. They told me they were slated to receive 2 of them.

I said cool, lets talk about me purchasing one of them.

They told me they were going to sell them for $69,000. I am like WTF!!!!

How is it possible or legal for a dealer to mark up a car 30g's?

I think back to Christmas and the demand for the Wii or PS3. Local retailers did not sell them for twice what they were worth, it was simply first come first serve.

Again I ask, how is it legal for a Dealer to mark up the price of a car?

I think I will be contacting my Attorney General to clarify this issue.

The car is not even worth sticker.

I remember when that silly car with the Neon chassis and drive train came out. They were selling that POS for over sticker too. Now they are worthless.

It seems ALL dealers are doing this, but some are far lower markup than others. A few weeks ago I stopped into a local dealer (Delano Dodge, for those locals who want to know) and they said they were hearing 19,500 over MSRP as the local average.

It would be legal for a toys r us to sell a wii for 500... however Nintendo (and MS and Sony) set amarket price that they must sell at by contract in order to be a legit seller....

    That said... its all legal...

whomever ends up buying those is going to be in for a hell of a surprise with the depreciation that is going to happen just like every other car.

And you expected anything different? $20k is the average with $30k becoming popular now.

One sold on eBay for $50k over.

Only a small percentage of dealers sold at sticker... and as you would guess, they have none left.

The MSRP is just what it stands for, manufacturers suggested retail price which leaves the door open for them to price the vehicles at whatever they see fit.

Well if it is legal, then I guess it is because of stupid people that actually pay many thousands more than sticker that allows the dealers to continue to rip people off and make off with some fat cash.

Yeah. I got two Shelby's that are going for 14 and 20k over sticker. And old people who like iconic cars will buy them...keep them, and when/IF they sell'em, the'll get their money back. I mean, who would pay 2million dollars for ANY car...especially one that's 30+ years old. But that happens...frequently...with Chargers and Cudas. Same concept.

Hardly ripping people off... the MSRP is right on the sticker. If someone looks at the car and says "it's worth $40, but I have to pay $70 to get it... but I want it that bad and I have the money"... then good for the dealer!!! If/when then don't all sell, the prices will fall back down until more buyers come forward. Same with every "special" car. IMHO, the '08 will be absolutely worthless. I can't imagine buying one when it has the same powertrain as an LX. When they drop the bigger engine and a 6-speed for 2009, well, THEN the car will be something special.
