2008-9 Challenger Vin decoding

There is pretty much no reason to break these number down, except that I am in the habbit of following the numbers. If anyone has more info to add, corrections, etc. please post.

2008-9 Challenger Vin Breakdown:

Digits 1-5: Shared by all challengers (2B3LJ)
Digits 6-8: Model Specific- 74W=SRT8 (08 & 09), 54T=R/T, 44V=SE,
Digit 9: Uncertain, package specific? 0-9 or X
Digit 10: Model Year
Digit 11: H? (Shared by all challengers)
Digit 12: 1=2008 pre-production SRT8 (est. 60 total), 2 or 3=2008 production SRT8,
5= all 2009 models
Digits 13-17: Production number (not numerically associated with the order produced or with limited # 0001-6400 cars)

In a previous post someone did determine that the end of the Vin is stamped/etched into the block. Think twice about turning your blown (but rebuildable) block in as a core if you plan to keep your car!

7 / Body style / 4 = 2 door pillared hardtop
8 / Engine / V = 3.5L 6 CYL gasoline non – turbo (EGG) T = 5.7L 8 CYL gasoline non – turbo (EZC,EZD) W = 6.1L 8 CYL gasoline non – turbo (ESF)
9 / Check digit / 0 through 9 or X
10 / Model year / 9 = 2009
11 / Assembly plant / H = brampton assembly
12 Through 17 / Vehicle build sequence / Six digit number assigned by assembly plant

can't find a description for it but i believe it is for verification that the VIN is valid.

Found the calculation for it, just a little too much math for my taste. It is to check the validity.

I also found that the D.O.T. has no clue what year code they will use after 2010!
