About half way between the muffler and the rear muffler/resonator is attached a black cylinder type object with a hole in one end. The hole points in the drive shaft direction. What is it? It does not seem to be on the right side RT exhaust systems.

Not unless you know what I am talking about. Go look underneath.
Are you talking about the counterweight/bumper thing? I would look but mine is at my shop since I have replaced with Dual setup. I will look on monday for you.

Could be. Its black, and made out of a hard rubber. Has a big hole in the
center, and it is welded to the exhaust pipe. Strange looking thing.
Counterweight? Wonder what it would be countering?
I have had the same question. Never asked it though. If it is made of rubber, could it be a vibration dampener?
The Magnum has a soul. It has a personality, something all too lacking in the automotive transportation appliances everybody else is offering.
Could you post a picture? I have changed the exhaust on my SXT, so I can't look underneath my car, but I can probably figure it out from a picture. - Walt

If it is indeed the counterweight, which I recall having seen on my 2.7L SE, it is for reduction of resonance. Just like piping anywhere, in a house, building or a plant, etc increasing the mass of the system increases the resonant frequency (the frequency at which the thing really starts shakin'). We also had a similar (although less sophisticated looking) welded device on our `95 F*#d Explorer.

i think i know what ur talking about. Is it about a foot from the end of the tailpipe? I noticed it when i was getting my zooooooooomers put on.
Vibration dampener is the correct answer, if my old memory serves me correctly.
MY MEAT WILL MELT IN YOUR MOUTH....NOT IN YOUR HANDS! ENJOY THE Q.
Ahhh, those clever Germans, or whoever owns/builds Dodges now days.
Since it is a hard rubber object with a hole in it, a damping effect seems
most logical. Why doesn't somebody take a hacksaw and cut it off?
Let me know how your car sounds. Then take it back to your Dodge dealer and have them weld it back on. Tell them some idiot on LX Forum told you to do it!
