What head is on the 3.5? (manifold question)

I was just purusing the Mopar site and saw that they have some pretty sweet aluminum intake manifolds, but what head do we have on the 3.5? Is it the W2? The aluminum manifolds are only ~$250!

Aluminum intake Manifold + forward mounted TB + hood scoop with custom plenum = no restriction intake system!

If the aluminum is to replace the plastic I would stick with plastic. Aluminum is going to heat up a lot and in turn heat up your intake air. Maybe consider painting the plastic instead?

Heating up of the manifold is never an issue as the air only spends a fraction of a second in the manifold itself. I don't have my mag yet, so I am working off of internet info. The stock config is that the air comes in the airbox, then travels along the engine to the rear, then into a manifold which has variable length runners to balance low end torque and high end hp. Achieving the right balance of runner length is important, go too short and the incoming air velocity is reduced, go too long and the air volume is decreased.

An aluminum manifold would be setup just like the intake manifold on the 6.1. cone filter mouted right in the front of the engine, thent the stock TB, followed by a manifold with equal length runners. Check out some pics of the SRT engine...just like that.

I'm not 100% convinced but I know what you mean on the 6.1. Also, I remember my Scirocco 16V engine had aluminum intake.

Aren't W2 Heads for the older LA series 340 and 360 motors???? Are you sure this isn't a V8 speed part you were looking at? Our heads are modular, overhead cam type whereas the W2s were the first really sweet flowing wedge heads for SB Mopars in the late 60's and early 70's. I think the last version was W8 heads. W stands for wedge.

Agree with the temperature capability of plastic vs. Aluminum. Aluminum is a very good conductor whereas the plastic likes to isolate the heat.

Ditto on the AL vs plastic intake debate. Have seen pro's at the drag races dump a bag of ice on the AL intakes to drop the temp (pre-freeze) is what they were calling it. I also have see a dyno run vid that picked up about 12hp fromt eh ice trick. Also the funniest thing I was was a 22hp gain from using a leafblower at the throttlebody. There was a company that was selling an electric fan the fits in a 3.5" intake tube that turned on only when WOT. I cant remember the dyno improvement, but it was pretty good. When the fan was not running, the blockage reduced the airflow to a common 3" intake tube.

Back to the orginal thread, did you happen to get a part # of what you were looking at?

The W2 cylinder heads are for the 318/340/360 Small block LA engines, not v6's. Currently mopar does not have any heads avaliable for the 3.5L engines, and i really dont think they will ever have plans on any performance mods (maybe cold air intake, and of course exhaust). The 3.5L is a cheap work horse motor, I guess Mopar thinks that if somone wants to go fast, they would buy the Hemi, and thats why they bring everything good out for it (good meaning CAI, headers, exhaust.. nothing else yet).

If you want to get better flowing cylinder heads, see how much it would be to have them ported. Doesnt hurt to ask..
