Thanks To LXForums, ZMagnum & fnkychkn!!

I recently acquired a strange whine in the front of the engine on my Magnum SXT. Kind of sounds like a steering pump going bad.

I did a search on "pulley whine" and found the following thread:

    New engine noise. Now what?

It seems as though ZMagnum has had the same issue, and with the help of other members, and fnky in particular, solved the problem for 20 bucks & ten minutes worth of time!

Strangely, Mark's & my car share two things in common when this happened: after an engine cleaning, and at 43,000 miles. How wierd is that??!!

Anyways, thanks to LXForums.com, ZMagnum & fnkychkn!! You all saved me a trip to the Dealer, and probably a few hundred bucks!

    Chris

so i guess its possible that the engine cleaning (usually an acid/solvent) may have gotten in the bearing of the pulley?

    it was the pulley right?

the seals might not be too good on em if so...

Yes congrats ZMagnum !!! I voted for you

Also thanks to everyone for this info... sounds like we may all need this one day esp. if we clean our engines.

I've washed my engine twice this summer... second time I made a terrible mistake and washed it at operating temp instead of slightly warm. Lucky everything still seems OK though steam seems to have damaged my underhood paint... might just give me a reason to look at aftermarket hoods
