Since no one eles wants to.......

I guess I'll take the ball on this one and run with it.

Thats right, dynoing stuff and seeing what we're actually getting to the wheels for 3.5 V-6's.

    Here's the plan-

    Run 1: Bone Stock Baselines

Run 2: Stage 2 Jet Chip

Run 3: True Duals No Jet Chip

Run 4: True Duals and Jet Chip

Updates will come as the tests do. i will put a Minimum af 200 miles on the vehicle after each mod, and befre the dyno run. Donations are and will be accepted.

The dyno that these test will be conducted on is a DynoJet floor dyno.

    RUN 1: RESULTS

Very dissapointing day. as the dyno operator said....who the hell knows what these ABS and traction control computers are doing. ESP was turned off for all three runs.

the first of the three runs was the best, obviously due to heat soaking. and the Magnum posted a wussy
    176.3hp @ 6200rpms
    181.5tq @ 5200rpms

that equates to a 31.4% driveline loos, which is higher than i've ever hear of, especially for a 2wd car.

after seeing these numbers, the best I think I'll hope for is 195-200 ponies.

Now that this baseline run is done, the Jet chip has been ordered. Hopefully i can put 200 miles on the car before next weekend.

Dan-O, thanks for the input. I just found a dyno in my area (hampton roads, va) that I am looking to go to, but I have been out of town on business for the past few weeks. When I get back I plan on going . 30% is a big loss, but I have seen about the same results on the Hemi's also. Bone stock they were puttin out something like 290hp and 295ftlb of tq. If i can find the link, i'll post it . Since I drive an SXT, im really interested in seeing how the jet chip does for you, as I am looking into purchasing the stage 2, along with the K&N CAI, but I have been doing some research and on the 5.7's, they only improved output buy .5 ponies. So I am kind of skeptical as of now. The only thing i've done to mine so far is a single 40 series flowmaster setup with the rear muffler removed and added a resonated tip. It feels like I lost some torque of the line, but the midrange and top end do feel a little stronger. Of course that's only what my "a$$ dyno" is saying. Keep us posted on your results.

My local performance shop (thet're actually doing the heads and block for my 360 right now) is http://www.abacusracing.com/ .

    Hurse- I'm in Portsmouth.

I've played with the thought of doing a K&N, but we'll see. It seems it would be more for looks that performance, which is important too. so we'll see.

That is the same numbers most 300M/Intrepid R/T owners get for a stock baseline on the 3.5L HO V6 Engine. Looks like the rear drive platform doesn't help get the power to the wheels any better.

You guys have to remember that dyno's measure hp to the wheel. 176 HP to the rear wheels isn't that bad! I had an S10 that was highly modified, fast as hell. I was running low to mid 14's and was only pushing about 170-175 HP to the rear wheels. When a company puts out a HP rating they measure the HP to the fly wheel. A 75 HP difference is common in any vehicle. My Dodge Ram Hemi was only getting about 270-275 HP to the rear wheels with minimal upgrades. From factory the Hemi is rated at 345 HP, thats 70 HP. I would say that between 170-180 HP for our SXT to the rear wheel sounds about in line. If we could pull 200 HP to the rear wheels out of our 6 banger we will be doing pretty good. I think the only way to achieve this would be with a cam upgrade or porting the heads. Basic bolt-ons is not going to do unless you bolt on a supercharger or add nitrous. I'm very interested to see how the other dyno runs come out. Keep us posted. I'm very interested in the chip mod for this is the only bolt on I have not performed on my Mag. Keep hearing mixed things on it.

Dan-o knows and mentioned this in his second post. He said there was a 31% loss of power in the drivetrain which is far worse than the typical 20%. So while 176 may not be bad its still a big big loss at the wheels.

It's 29.48%. Not sure where you're coming up with 31%

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

Yeah I calculated the same thing myself but used his numbers because it was his dyno run.

Magman3 You are absolutely correct. With high airflow eg.. intake and exhaust, Your getting gains at high rpms. I personally want the low end torque. I am thinking of shaving, porting and machining 3 or 5 angle valve seats to the head. I am not sure a cam is avalible. If I don't have the valve clearances I will most likely machine compression and oil ring slots into a blank. I would like to get more compression. Then you have the computer to deal with. this is my stumbling block.

If these 3.5 had more low end torque they would be dangerous because at a roll my car takes off like a bullet! All I have done is intake and exhaust. I'm thinking if I keep her (having a lot of problems/can't decide what to do), I'm going to port and polish the heads and check on a cam replacement. I also flirted with the idea of adding nitrous, but that will be down the road. If anything ever happens to this little 3.5 I will just have to upgrade the tranny and add the HEMI.

LOL yea I hear ya. As a matter of fact I was sitting at at stop sign this morning waiting to take a left, when I got a small hole in the traffic I punched it and it broke loose! I kicked the back end out. Finished the turn at almost a 45-degree angle, throttled back for half a second to get traction, straightened out and off I went. To cool!
