I tripped a P1004 code at 65K miles which is the Short Runner Valve issue that has been covered by TSB 18-003-07. I removed the actuator and the valve rotates as it should but I think it is binding and probably the reason the code triggered. I sprayed some lubricant in there, put it back together and cleared the code but I think I am in for a repeat. Question... when the intake is removed can it be opened up to get at the Short runner valve or is it sealed. I bet some cleaning and lubrication would fix it if the intake can be opened up. Suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

upper intake plenum is sealed. once they start sticking, we just replace them. never tried to free one up.
Thanks I am out of warranty and I am sure that is a very pricey part... any suggestions as to repair. Has anyone ever opened one up to see what is causing the sticking problem.

The parts guy at my dealer today quoted me 1500 dollars... what is wrong here?
plenum is no longer available on it's own. it now comes preassembled with SRV & MTV actuators, MAP sensor and throttle body.

i'd be getting TSB 18-003-07A done before condemning the plenum. those valves are not as smooth as you might think they should be. the flash may be enough to prevent this DTC from recurring.
How customer friendly is that.... I gess that was what I was being quoted on.
Another question... if the actuator was not able to action the valve properly due to bind would that automatically trigger the code. So... if there is no code does that mean the valve IS opening and closing properly.
Thanks

if there is no code, the system should be working properly.
if there is a code, the valve may or may not be sticking. that's why the TSB gets you to flash the PCM first. IIRC, this flash changes the fail criteria.
My runner is noisy. I can hear it "click" open when I give the motor some pedal. Done this since I owned it day one and never a problem.
That's pretty pricey for the plenum. You'd almost be better off looking in a junk yard for one.
