Question Remote switch for fuse 11...

Not sure if this has come up before... But I'm considering tapping into fuse 11 prior to the panel and inserting a ON/OFF switch to momentarily disable it. The convenience of being able to get in my car, toggle the switch briefly, and start it up with a clean slate is very alluring... Mind you, when I say "considering", I haven't even taken a gander at the fuse box yet -- tomorrow I'll do that much

What are your collective thoughts on this? I'm thinking the dangers are obvious -- a wire tap or switch fails and all the systems go down; could be ugly in some situations. But if done properly, I'd think it could be a safe and useful mod.

I'd use a heavy duty mains-grade DTSP switch (in case one pole fails, the other ensures connection), along with some careful wiring... So... What am I not thinking of?

If the circuit fails, the car just quits running. I speak from experience. I have such a switch on my car and I have not touched it in over a year.

Ask not "Why Not" but ask "Why". I just don't see the need to trip it.

Today I took out my stock air silencer box -- even though I know it's not really a performance upgrade, I pulled fuse 11 and took the car for a quick ride just to see if I felt a difference. Truth is, I did feel a difference, but more likely do to the reset than lack of air silencer.

That just got me thinking, perhaps the car car would perform better in a contant state of reset... I dunno, I've only pulled the fuse a few times -- though each time I could've sworn I noticed an improvement, if only for a brief period of time.

But to your point, I certainly wouldn't want the car to die altogether if something failed or the switch got bumped... And I could very well be overestimating the degree to which the reset increases performance. Hell with it, lol...

I pull fuse 11 everytime I wash the car. My wife sits in stop and go traffic and dumbs the SRT right out of this thing. Pulling the fuse makes a big difference. I've thought about some type of switch/fuse arrangement that plugs directly into fuse slot just so I don't have to pull it out all of the time to reset the system, but I'm not no electrical genius by any stretch of the imagination and dare not jack with it. Maybe someone can take this approach for a quick and easy "fix".

I found a bigger change from disconnecting the battery cable for 15 to 20 mins.

From what some of the LX Gurus say, this "clears" the computer more throughly then the Fuse #11 trick.

I did the Fuse trick and noticed an improvement. Then after a while I did the battery disconnect and noticed an even ****** improvemant.

    YMMV.

I was pulling fuse #11 a lot when I installed a lower thermostat in my car, it kept throwing codes. To make it easier to pull the fuse (and to mark it) I installed a small, thin zip tie around it. Makes it easier to locate the fuse and to pull it.

I do have a dash mounted switch for fuse #17, to turn off the ESP.
    So I can do burnouts........LOL
