    Jetchip Stage 1 Impressions

So I told you all I would give you my impression about the Jetchip Stage 1 for the 3.5L I bought and added to my ride...

Before installing it I was getting on average 15-16 mpg based on my daily drive and how I drive (gas it once in a while, but generally a normal driver)

Well the immediate impression was that it definately felt like it changed the way it shifted... not really a "bad" feeling just different... I was on the highway and I was stuck behind someone that was not going with the flow of traffic, so I waited for an oepening in the lane next to me and goosed it... The car didn't react like it did before... usually, it would just drop down a gear quickly and shoot me around... Now with the chip, it kept it in the same gear for a few seconds trying to put it harder in that gear, then it finally decided it wanted to go down a gear to be able to pick up faster...

I'm not totally sure if this is a good or a bad thing so I just kinda ignored it...

The 1st tank after I put it on I averaged about 17.5 mpg (I do approx 50 miles a day round trip for work) It should be 1/2 highway, 1/2 city but there are days where it is almost all stop and go my whole trip home, and some days where I hit nothing...

The next 2 tanks I only got just over 15 mpg... I didn't drive differently or anything, the weather was pretty consistent temperatues...

I am thinking that the "smart car" aspect is taking over and learning how I drive instead of letting the Chip affect it

To test this theory, I decided to pull the power for about 15 min then reattach the battery lead... If I end up getting higher mpg this next tank, I am going to have to figure out some sort of better way then constantly pulling the cable (or teh fuse) each time I fill up...

Anyone else have similar results or an I just nuts?
    -Patrick

The jet chip stage I and II don't affect shift points. So i don't think it had anything to do with the chip on that score.
Yeah I get much better MPG with the Jet chip than without it.

I hear rumors of the same about our PCM adapting to our driving and ignoring the chip as well. Anyone else wanna chime in?

hmm..if this is true, then always change it up and never let your car learn your patterns

Ok what do you want to know! For the 2.7 you have to get the jet chip 2 but then you need a intake and a exhuast setup. I have 2 series so I have to run 91 or 92 octane that is the down side. Shifts feel better frimer, there is a noticeable of HP gain, you can actually break your tires loose now on wet pavement. Milage still stucks 20mpg during city driving and 27mpg open road.
I don't have any numbers at the moment I will be going on the dyno coming May.

Last numbers I had were 164 rwhp with the exhuast I will update that once I figure out the correct numbers.
So damn custom, I don't even need a sig!

My impression is your getting horrible gas mileage period. I have never got below 18 mpg in the city, and have got up to 27 mpg on the highway. The jet chip definately makes my car pull harder through the powerband.

Thanks for the info man.I would love to see the #s after the dyno.I plan on ordering the blastin bobs 10db dual kit as soon as he gets back with me will that work.Which intake do people go with? That really sucks you have to run the premium gas.
    Thanks again

Timbone, that is rear wheel HP. The factory specs are from the crank.

I wouldn't recommend that blastin' bob setup for a stage II jet chip. You need true free flowing exhaust for a stage II. It advances the time large. As for the premium fuel you get much better mpg with 91 octane than you did with with a stock pcm and midgrade fuel. Well you do on the 3.5 ..idon't know what its like on that 2.7

Yes BBs Dual conversions are all Y pipes out to 2 pipes instead of an X pipe and true dual setups
