    JBA Headers Install!

Ok so not to disapoint, but no pictures, we were pressed for time, so we didnt take any. But the stock manifolds at first looked impossible to get to. My dad's friend who is a mechanic, agreed to help me out, so we used his lift. Man, to start off, it's not as tight as i thought it would be, but its still tight. You have to remove the airbox and airtube, and unhooked the 02 sensors. We reached most of the bolts for the heat shields from up top, but had to use a few extensions for the bottom. So after we got all the heat shields off, we decided to do one side and then the other. We did the passanger side first. It was fairly simple, and the stock gaskets actually line themselves up. So after we got the passanger side on we took a short break to look over the parts. WTF...i just realized they put all the wrong sizes on their parts, all their nuts and bolts are 14 MM not 13MM. But luckily my mechanic knows his stuff, and can tell the size just by the looks of it. So we started removing the drivers side and realized, maybe its a good idea to unplug the battery. The stock manifold fell and hit the starter and sparked. So after we did that, that side went on fairly quick. So after we plugged in all the sensors, connected the pipes back up, and put the airbox back in, we put it down on the ground and started her up. Hey, its a sleeper....i couldnt hear a difference. So i had my dad rev it up, and there is a little difference, when its coming back down the rpm range, it gets a deep burble, like it is trying to come to life but is so hampered by the stock exhaust its useless. It also whooooshes more when i hammer it, from the air exiting the exhaust. So I took it out and man, what a difference. The low end rpm range is great. I can patch out now with the ESP off. The laggyness off the line is pretty much gone. But the computer is still adapting, because now my 1 to 2 shift is sloppy, I should probably pull fuse 11. But sorry for not having pictures, and this is a must do mod for any of the V6's looking for being the fastest.

Actually the header bolts are 8mm. I have locking 8mm bolts on mine. Never had to re-torque anything. I have dual zoomers catback with my headers and you can hear that header rumble through all RPM ranges but its most prevalent in the low end. Yes I would agree the header mod is a good bang for your buck. However if I were you I would consider a more free flow exhaust.

The 8mm you are refering to, is that the diameter of the bolt itself, or the size head? The tool we were using was 14mm to tighten in the bolts....Maybe i got the wrong bolts??, because i got 17 bolts and nuts with lock washers and 4 long nuts and bolts for the exhaust, and the bolts seemed kinda short...but hey...they are on..and i plan on getting a magnaflow single exhaust.

I am referring to the size of the thread. What kind of lock washers did you use? The ones I'm referring to have tabs that you bend down after you torque them in. The tabs go up against the side of the exhaust manifold and stop any reverse movement of the bolts. I believe they are called stage8 locking nuts. The magnaflow should help alot. I'm sure you will feel more pull after you install the exhaust.

Yeah...those are the tabs....i thought my mechanic said they were stage8 bolts....cool. I was half tempted to pull the exhaust after the cats, where the first set of clamps are.

I am about to purchase the ceramic coated headers to decrease temp in the engine bay. I have an 06 mag sxt with dual magnaflow exhaust as well as the b&g flash with custom bent Intake pipe to locate the filter in the lower air box location. thru the hole we all know is under the top air box. i have also wrapped my intake pipe with fiberglass to cut down on the engine heat affecting the intake.

the difference in temperature is 0ver 20 degrees metered by the iat sensor. from before the wrap to now.

sorry to add above i want to decrease engine bay temp and decrease that engine backpressure caused by the stock headers. upgrading to the bigger jba headers i hear is a wize investement. since yes i am looking to go faster.

with the b&g flash i have pegged my needle. and the car laughed and said thats all you got. No but honestly at 140 it wanted to go faster. but did not have another gear to shift into. so it topped out. but of course my car is 3 inches off the ground with dual exhaust upgraded comp. intake and (no esp mod) not from no esp.com. My own version which is the same thing., but applied differently.
