    Engine Noise

I started to notice a weird noise when my car is in drive and at an idle with break pressed. It goes away once the break is released and start moving.

I swear it sounds like a coffee machine making coffee in the morning.

    Anybody know what this is???

Let me know. PM would be preferred.

Is it a clicking or racheting sound? That's the transmission. My Magnum as well as my 2000 Durango makes the same noise. Totally normal.

Well I hear it every time I put it in drive with the windows down. Do you have the 4 speed transmission or the 5 speed auto-stick?

I hear it with the windows up and no radio/ac/heat going. It comes from behind the steering wheel. Its the 4 speed. And only when In Drive but stopped with the break pressed down.

You got me on this one.

My brake pedal used to make a noise when I pressed it but it was a spring sound. It just needed some grease.

This is probably something your dealership's Techs should hear.

If you encounter a noise during brake pedal application, apply lithium grease to the spring located at the brake pedal pivot point. The grease should be applied to all surfaces of the spring and at each of the hard contact points to the pedal assembly. Exercise the pedal to insure that the noise is suppressed with the grease applied. Please take caution to not apply an excessive amount of grease. During the summer months the grease can soften and drip off the assembly and onto the carpet.

I've had 3 A/C compressors replaced by the dealer although the problem was misdiagnosed for at least two of the three. I had an intermittent noise (groan/grinding/rattling) that would only occur when the AC compressor was engaged. Sometimes to get the engine to produce the noise I'd have to apply the brake hard. I thought the noise was coming from the passenger side but the dealer tech would just place another order for an A/C compressor (drivers side). I didn't delve ito it too much myself at first because my dealer provides a loaner car and my Magnums under warrenty, but after many weeks of this I took my stethoscope/tube with me to the dealer and convinced them that the noise was coming from the alternator. Possibly a bearing going bad we thought. When they were about to install my new alternator they discovered the source of my noise. The lower alternator bracket was loose and unattached at the exhaust manifold. I've got Gibson headers and there is no place to attach this bracket. My installer just left that end unattached and the bracket worked loose at the alternator and vibrated under certain conditions, say when the engine was under A/C load or recovering from a hard stop. Strange but true. The bracket is item '1' in the drawing.

EDIT: Oops just noticed this thread and TSB is for the V6 SXT.

my friends dad said it could be Low Coolant Level or possibly my Break Booster going bad. He owns his own Auto shop so I hope when I take it in and tell them this they can figure it out pretty quick.
