2.7L with Flowmaster 50 and no resinator!!!

I finally broke down and had the resinator taken off Maggie today to see how I would like the sound.

The car has a very deep sound and at a sudden full throttle in 1st gear it will get deep and a little flat then mellow out. Most of the time it sounds like an '85 300Z turbo or a small flathead V8, then about 65 mph you can no longer hear the exhuast at all, and same at 80 mph.

So far I like the sound of the deep rumble from stop sign to stop sign. Sure can tell **** points.

I wanted to see how it would sound before I did the duel exhuast mod later. I already had the Flowmaster 50 on it after hitting a cement block in the road (lucky I was) and I was skiddish as to the sound from the small 165 CI engine. I didn't want anything like a ricer sound, and I'm happy to report it's not. What amazed me is how deep a tone the car has with the the 50 series, because it was quiter then stock with the Flowmaster 50 and the stock resinator at the back in place. The car has almost too deep a tone to the exhuast at less then 1500 rpm, and quitens as it goes past 2000 rpm's.

My guess is it will quiten down some at low rpm, where it's rather loud, when I finish the duel set up with a Flowmaster 50's on both the left bank and right bank. I will need to find something for heat insulation for the left muffler at the gas tank before I have this done. This setup would have only cost about $250 had I just had it all done at the same time, but I will end up with about $300 to $325 in the duels.

Any sound clips? It would be a real help to some members here to tell the difference between engines.

No, I have never done a sound recording. I will have to look and see if I have a mic to use with the laptop for a sound run. Maybe next week if I can figure things out.

I guess we need another GTG then.

If you have a digital camera that does video, then use that. down load to a site and there you have it.

My old Sony digital doesn't do audio, just video. I know I need to update.

Had to trade vehicles with the wife yesterday and she commented on how she liked the new sound and wanted to know if we could do the same for her Jeep.

I am headed to the muffler shop as soon as I post this to have a Flowmaster 40 put on the big 4cyl (2.8L) diesel and will laugh if she says it sounds like a tractor.

I think it will not be much different then stock, I just hope it helps cool EGT's and allows the turbo spool up faster to be worth the $100 I'm spending.

This will put off my duel conversion for Maggie till at least next month.

Old Navy, do you notice any type of droning at about the 2000-3000rpm range? I know it's apples to oranges but I had a Magnaflow put on my PT and the droning was too loud...couldn't even carry on a conversation in the car at that rpm/speed.

Also, any "seat of the pants" performance or mpg gains?

No drone and that's one thing I did not want to hear either. At 65 to 75 mph it is almost as quite as stock, inside the car at least. The only time I can manage anything like a drone is in first gear about 2500 rpm with foot to the floor, and an odd sound when it changes first 2 gears under throttle load. It's not a drone either, don't know how to describe, and it's a 1 second happening.

What is funny is the wife like the sound of the car. I was going to put the duels on and have about decide not to, didn't want to risk loosing a sound the wife and I both like.
