2.7L as an alternative fuel engine?

I was curious to know if the 2.7 V6 can use alternative fuel such as the E85 fuel.

I was researching the E85 fuel and it listed the Chrysler 2.7 engine as one that can use either gasoline or the alcohol/ethanol based E85.

    Does anyone know?

(Disclaimer: just because I asked this question, don't anyone with this engine go out and try it!)

"Gas City" stations sell it here in Illinois, about $0.10 to $0.15 cheeper per gallon, but... I thought alcohol won't produce as much energy per gallon as gasoline so the savings maybe non-existant???

    Anyone know?

pros- are the cheaper purchase price, renewable resource (at least partly, can grow corn, can't make more oil) and it's good for local economy (if you have farms).

However, you will get worse gas mileage so the $$ per mile driven will likely go up, and there is reduced HP on the ethenol blends.

I believe I read in my owners manual that the 3.5 and 2.7 can use these fuels, don't remember about the 5.7.

the JR sebring is the only 2.7L vehicle chrysler offers with FFV (flex fuel vehicle) option. i also beleive it is only for fleet sales.

It says that you are suppose to get better fuel economy with it.But i dont see why it isnt alot cheaper than reg gas hell its only %15-20 real gas.People were really trying it out when gas was super high.At only 10-15 cents cheaper its not really that great.

I was just asking as I saw a program on Brazil's energy program that uses sugar as their primary energy source for automobiles. All their autos are FFV to run on ethanol or gasoline.

I guess the hidden agenda was if the US were to switch over to a corn based energy for fueling autos, we wouldn't depend on "our friends" the Saudis. But I don't want to get into that "can of worms" debate.

Also, I realize that ethanol is found primarily in the Mid-West and not elsewhere but I would love to see it throughout the US to give the oil companies some competition.

Anyway, a safe a properous New Years to you all!

My understanding is that the 2.7, if compatible, would be made with different gaskets and seals that won't get degraded by the more agressive E85 fuel blend.

There is a web site which has a list; it doesn't list the Magnum, but it does list other vehicles with the 2.7L engine:

    http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/byfueltype.htm

Choose your model year, then select Flexible Fueled Vehicles from the drop down, then the "Go" button. Even the Ram with the 4.7 and some Caravans with the 3.3L are compatible.

Wasn't GM and/or other automakers switching to a yellow gas cap to denote flex fuel compatibility?

BTW, here in Northern Nevada, there is no E85 available, but if it were we'd take a look at it. Wife just does city driving so its not like we're setting any fuel mileage or performance records.

KWW - what's your opinion of the Magnum SE (2.7L V6)? Are you satisfied with the performance and fuel economy? I know compared to the 3.5 and Hemi it pales compared to them but there are so many deals on SEs, it's tempting.

Yes, I know I should drive one and I have but I am interested in other owners' thoughts.

    Thanks!
