    2.7 Oil Question

Usually I get my oil changes done @ Valvoline cause I'm lazy and don't want to do it myself. Since I've had my Magnum I've used 5W-30 Durablend, which I believe is a synthetic oil.

Would it be harmful to my engine to switch from a synthetic oil to a regular oil? I was thinkin instead of payin Valvoline the $60+ it takes to do their oil change, I'd just spend $20 at the dealership or do it myself.

Any advice on oil care for my car would be much appreciated.

And is it true you REALLY need to get it changed every 3,000?

    Thanks

you can make the switch, but most won't recommend it. the best thing for your motor is stick with one brand of oil throughout the life of the motor.....maybe you can buy the oil and take it to them for them to do the change. that's what i do....I go buy my mobil 5/20 and filter and take it to the same shop to get it done....only because I don't have any ramps and I have known the manager for about 10 years now. My 7 qt oil change costs me about 50 bucks when it's all done.

as far as 3000 miles, not necessarily. synthetics don't break down like conventional oils so you can do extended changes on synthetic. it also depends on your type of driving, if you drive some highway, some city and don't have much stop and go then you're ok to go extended.....if you drive a lot of stop and go, dirty dusty roads, or a lot of redline driving you need to change more often.

Check out your Walmart. Here they stock Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec, and a few others plus the Mopar filters. As far as oil change intervals, if your using a full synthetic oil, you can go longer. I go 5,000 miles with Mobil 1 in both of my hemis. I think Mobil 1 is about $22 for a 5 qt jug at Walmart and the filter less than $4. If you do it yourself, you will know it was done right! I think your car is worth the best oil. I look on it like nobody can predict the future, if times get hard, I may have to drive my vehicles a long time.

So should I go full synthetic or stay with the DuraBlend and would that have any affect on my engine? Cause I'll switch to full synthetic today.

Switching to SYnthetic will not have a negative effect on your engine. In MANY cases you will actually see a gas mileage improvement (more so on the 5.7 w/MDS, dont know about the 2.7)...

I use Amsoil Series 2000 0w-30 on my 2.7, with the amsoil filter.....I change my oil every 25000 miles, allthough, it says I can go to 35000...
Thi filter gets changed every 6 months or 12,500 miles.

It costs me around $55 to do a Full drain oil change, But I do it alot less often and in the long run, saves me a bit of money compared to using run of the mill oils. I get a Little bit better mileage by using the Amsoil as well, and theres alot less wear on the internals.

Is that a Typo? Did you mean 2500 miles? 25000 seems an awful lot.

I did my first two oil changes but got some leaks around the breather tube....royal purple is known for this, it will find every leak you have, not a problem, just a nuisance. Power....I don't know, been using Mobil 5/20 for 10k miles now....did fine on the dyno and track for me.
