Wheels And Tires - Magnum R/T AWD

    Hiya,

I need help making a decision regarding rims and tires for my Magnum. Spring is approaching and I'll need to get something soon.

I have an 06 R/T AWD Magnum. I'm looking for Black 20" rims and staggered tire formation.

I'm looking to balance ride comfort with performance.

I was considering perhaps 245/45/20 front and 275/40/20 rear. I'm not an expert on tires/rims so I have no idea what will fit. I heard something regarding unusual offset on the Magnum that makes rims hard to find.

Looking at sites like Tire Rack, I do not see much of a selection when it comes to tires/rims. I'm from Canada, so I'm looking for someone who will ship it there.

    Any input is appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Tom

stock AWD rims are 18x7.5, 5x115, +55 offset. too low of an offset, and the wheels will stick out past the fender

staggered wheels and tires will be a problem since you are driving all 4 wheels. the consensus seems to be that the computer will have trouble with different sized wheels between front and back, best to stay with the same size on both.

check discount tire, they seem to have more choices for the AWD.

try the google site search since it allows searching for 3-letter words, look for AWD wheel posts.

As I understand the AWD Magnum, still puts out 2/3 of the power to the rear wheels. Wouldn't wider tires in the back improve traction?

Not without a bunch more horsepower, say about 500 or so.

There are lot and lots of threads about wheels that fit the 4WD's and the "widest tires" take the time and do some searches. I think you will find there are a few (not a lot) options available to you 4wd's.

Check with Ernie at Avon Custom Wheels. (Supporting Vendor)

He's awesome to deal with, and has become somewhat of an expert at Canadian shipping, well Lori has anyway. If not they know where to get some help.

I was just looking for some clarification on rims vs tires. What size rims goes with what tire etc. The whole offset thing kind of confuses me. Why does smaller positive offset stick out farther than larger positive offset. Or more to the point, what's the absolute max offset that will fit (i.e look good) on the AWD.

I guess I'm trying to attack this from both sides. Match tires to rims and vice versa.

    Cheers,

    Tom

I'd give up on the notion of a staggered fit. The required offset really doesn't allow it.
