had a set of 22's -- put 16,000 miles on them -- they were excellent (except for the wear -- they must be a soft tire, therefore only got 16K miles)

    very sticky, great wet tire.

275/40/20's - Easily the best tire for our car if you like to exploit the handling of a 4,250 beast. If you just like tooling around there are lot's of other tires for less money. But for performance driving there is nothing else like them.

Couldn't agree more. I'm torn right now between putting V's back on the car, or trying out the NT05's. The NT05's will be around $200-$300 more for a set of four. They are stickier, but I'm thinking the better sidewall stiffness of the V's will close the handling gap some. Not to mention I'll probably get 6-7K more miles out of the V's. Tough decisions! So far, between my RSA's, F1's, Vredesteins, and the current Invos, the V's are hands down the handling winner. Not to mention they are the only ones I've been able to rotate any which way I liked!

hands down michelin pilot ps2. vreds not even close. had both and many other sets of tires. but for the money the vreds are very hard to bet period. i like my ps2 alot since my pedders install. they allow me to take full advantage of the handling, the vreds did not. but they were and still are a great touring tire, best i have ever heard on concrete roads.

Jes i have the Vred's and I have about 10k on them and they are about half gone, for the type of driving I do(distance) it was the wrong choice.. For you doing alot of driving to shows, I would pick a tire that lasts longer

Just wondering if you've tried the GS-D3 from Goodyear...

Making statements like "the best", or "nothing else like them" if you haven't tried all summer ultra (or maximum) performance tires isjust biased!

I had the GYs on my car and I would imagine them to be one of the best...but I can't say for sure. I did love the way they handled in the wet and onthe dry...

I just put on ADVAN STs from Yokohama, and they handle extremely well on the dry too. One of the best? Possibly. The best...probably not!

    I'm just sayin'!!!

Goodyear Eagle GSD3's don't come in our size - 245/45/20, 255/45/20 or 275/40/20. They do have 275/45/20 but I wouldn't run anything that tall on our cars. I know that the GSD3's are great tires from my CTS-V days, just wish they had the proper size.

As for the Advans, they are really a truck tire. The only test I could find was vs. the Pirelli Scorpio Truck Tires and the Bridgestone Dueler H/P sport truck tires. The Advans lost to the Bridgestone Duelers. They're also $300 apiece so I probably won't be running those truck tires at $1,200 per set. Here's a re-post from my earlier tire thread. I used owners experiences, my experience, tire rack tire tests, Car and Driver's most recent tire test and UTQG ratings to make the determinations below.

I also consider price in the equation too, which brings value into the equation. So I guess I should say that the Vredesteins are the best handling, best value choice for our performance cars. Especially when you consider tread life. Tires in RED below are the ones I've personally owned.

GY RSA's - Pure garbage and damned scarey at the limit

GY RSA's EMT - See above and figure $1,100 for runflats that handle like they are flat.

Hankook Ventus AS RHO7 - Don't be fooled, these are truck tires and handle accordingly.

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 - My next tire! Beat the Michelin Pilot Sports hands down!!!! They're on the way so I'll post up some results once they're mounted.

Nitto 420S - Another truck tire

Nitto NT05 - Everything I've read on these tires states that they are the real deal. Predictable handling and very poised under our 2 ton beasts. Sounds like the Vred's have some competition.

Wanli - I want an UHP tire not dinner

Pirelli PZero Rosso - Too expensive at $1,500 per set

Dunlop SP Sport 9000 - They've bombed every head to head test I've ever seen. I expect better for $1,200!

Avon Tech 550 A/S - Nice choice if you absolutely need an all season tire. Good handling, great treadwear and nicely priced at $650 a set.

GY F1 - Great tire, but wear entirely to quickly, worn F1's in the rain = disaster. There are better tires for $800.

Falken 452 - 255's all around, nice handling, great wear and SUPER quiet. Hard to beat at $600 a set but a little squishy at the limit. Not the equal of the F1's or Vred's.

Nitto INVO - Almost ended up with these, but at $800 vs. the equally impressive 452's for $600. Hell, I like a bargain like the next guy. Didn't do well in C&D's test vs. the Hankooks and Michelins.

TOYO Proxes 4 - 275/40's all around seem to be the ticket. Another bargain tire, but not the handling equal of the Vreds/F1 group(others will argue this). Can be had for $605 a set. I've gotten 20K miles out of them and NOTHING short of drag radials will match their of the line grip.

TOYO Proxes S/T - Another truck tire. Avoid.

Yokohama Advan S.T. - Came in second to Bridgestone Duellers and cost $1,200 per set. Need I say more?

Cooper Zeon Sport A/S - 400 treadwear = very hard tire, although they do have an AA rating for grip. This is an all season tire though and will not be the equal of the other Ultra High Performance tires on the list.

Yokohama Avid H4S - Another all season tire, see Coopers above.

Yokohama Parada Spec X - Another truck tire. Avoid.

Khumo Ecsta ASX KU21 - Another all season tire, see Coopers above.

Vredestein - One hell of a tire. I ran these at VIR up to 150mph and through some great high speed sweepers. These are the equal of the F1's if not better. F1's tend to wear out at 8,000 miles, but not these Vred's! Around $775 on ebay/Moe's and they're worth it.

Looking forward to getting my Hankooks on. Ended up paying $600 for a set of 255/45/20's. Hate to give up the tread width of the 275/40's but I wanted to try something new.

I use to think that too, especially after seeing Michelins on the SRT Experience cars. I figured they must be the best. Check out the latest Car and Driver. The Hankook Ventus Evo K110's beat the Michelins in 5 out of 7 performance tests. The two tests they lost were just barely. It's your choice - $600 for the 2nd place Hankooks or $1,580 for the 3rd place Michelins. I have better things to do with my hard earned cash.

Just curious as to what tires you'd recommend. You're on pace to get 20,000 miles out of a super high performance tire. Is it the noise, because they do "sing" on the highway somewhat. So do my Toyo's for that matter. I can tell you that the Falken 452's were very quiet. I mean noticeably, how did my car get so much quieter kind of quiet. And they do have nearly the handling of the top tires at 9/10th's driving and excellent tread life. Doesn't hurt that you can get a set for around $600 too! Let me know your thoughts as I like to incorporate that into my little, very un-scientific tire test.

So you would avoid all truck tires from what I am reading? Why is that exactly? The Vreds are not a car tire either but listed as an SUV tire...

    Just wondering...enlighten me please.

Let me rephrase. I would avoid all the truck tires listed here that cost more that $800. I would avoid the truck tires that have an A rating or less for traction as AA is ideal. I would avoid the truck tires that are not rated UHP or higher. The Advans for example would fail on these merits:

    1) Cost - $1,271.56 shipped via Tire Rack
    2) This tire is not rated as an Ultra High Performance Tire
    3) This tire doesn't lead it's own segment being bested by the Bridgestone's which are also less expensive.
    4) This tire is rated a 6.1 by buyers on Tire Rack while other tires rated as high as 8.7.

I wouldn't avoid all truck tires, just the ones that I say "avoid" in my listing. Frankly there are just better tires out there that cost under $800 as set and will outperform these truck tires that cost $1,200+. Why take the chance?

I didn't address your other point - The Vred's are definitely SUV tires as are the Toyo Proxes. I would've never tried these had it not been for Bud and others testing them first and giving a fair comparison to the F1's. I still think that the F1's are a great tire. They just lose when you start to consider tread life, wet handling, road noise toward the end of their life and price.

My customers seem to swear by them. I'm gonna try the 275/40/20s or the 315/35/20s on my Challenger as soon as Boss releases the 338s in 20".
