Ultimate Tire Replacement Guide Ver. 2 with 08/09 Winter Tire Guide!

After the great Success and Overwhelming Positive responses from the first tire guide I posted, I decided to drive myself absolutely nuts compiling the below content to create the Ultimate Tire Replacement Guide: Ver. 2.

There are always so many questions as to what tires a person should get to replace their stockers, or what tires are the right size when upgrading to a new wheel size, so I thought I would create a thread outlining stock tire sizes for our LXs and have now also included our new friends the challengers. Included is Make and Model with wheel and tire size for stock and their most common replacements. I have also included most common tire sizes for wheel upgrades.
Keep in mind, this is a working thread, I will update as new tires become available. Also I am hoping people can give CONSTRUCTIVE additions. I am hoping people can add postings such as:
    1. "I had/have ______ tires in ________ size and they are great." or
    2. "I had/have ______ tires in ________ size and they were horrible because....."
Let me know if you had rubbing issues or other problems with tires mentioned below. Please keep replys limited to ratings of tires or trials of success and failures. Any comments/suggestions on the thread itself could be made directly to me via PM, that would be appreciated to leave space for tire specific posts...Thank You.

From the LX platform’s inception in 2005 until the new 2009 model year, model designations have changed, but these changes have been noted in the new format for stock equipment below.

With the new Format, this would no longer fit into 1 post, so it is divided strategically.

    17" Tires

Now for the part where all the time searching the internet and compiling data comes into play….the tire guide….starting with 17”s and working up to 24”s….each section will start with factory sized replacement tires, then work up the size chart for optional upgrades to be used on stock sized wheels…(except for the 22”s and 24”s). I will then finish off with a guide for winter tires for all sizes.

    17” Wheels:
    17” x 7” Stock Wheels
    215/65R17 Stock Tires

17” Tire options are the most plentiful and have the widest selection of tires available in both stock and upgrade sizes due to the fact that it is the most commonly equipped wheel size on cars both domestic and foreign in todays marketplace. Take your time to look through the option, read reviews on tiresales websites and ask around for tested and tried tires in the LX community.

    22" and 24" Tires!!!!

    22” Wheels:
    22” x ??” Wheels

    265/35/22 – 295/30/22 Tires

Ok, so from information I have gathered when it comes to 22” Wheels and tires is simple…..265/35/22s work on all 4 wheels no problem….265/35 front and 275/30 rear works with no problems….anything wider than the 275/30 in the rear may require fender roll….with some people doing fender roll going up to 305 width, but from what I have seen the average person has been sticking to a 265/35/22 front 295/30/22 rear configurations with rolling the fender.

Because of the common staggered setup, I have changed up the format a bit for the 22” tires. I will list the tires as I have above, but this time, listing the sizes that the tires are available in instead of making separate lists for each size and you having to figure out which tires can be staggered. Just thought I would make it a little easier on everyone else.

    22” Tires:
    Avon Tech M550 A/S: 265/35/22
    Clear S277: 265/35/22
    Cooper Zeon XST: 265/35/22

Once again, I will try to be as thorough as possible when it comes to updating this guide on new factory wheels/tires, and aftermarket tire options.
Hope this helps with your tire decision making.

    Enjoy!!!

Wow, I just found this! Great Guide, thanks!!

I have an '07 Charger SXT/AWD and I'm running Sport Edition KV5 20" rims, with Yokohama Parada Spec-X, 255/45/20 tires. I've used them for daily driving, autocross and a Track Day at Mid-Ohio! So far, so good!

Excellent research, thanks ... I'm going to need replacements soon for my 255-55-18's and BFG has discontinued that size for the KDW2/KDW-NT tread pattern that I have been enjoying for 40,000 miles. Glad to see so many choices in that size now. I'm also considering a few I've seen while surfing around in 255-45-18 size.

Something to add to your guide. I have a 2005 Mag R/T and during the nicer months of the year (late April - Late Oct) I run the following:

275/40R20 Hankook Ventus ST tires riding on 20" x 8.5" Verde Kaos wheels in Hyper Silver

I have zero rubbing issues but I'm still at the stock height. I know of one other member (HemiLover) running this same combo but he has a bit of a drop, 1.5" I belive, and from what he's told me, he also has no rubbing issues.

Goodyear now has the Assurance Tripletred in the 225/60/R18 size. I just picked these up to replace the Comfortreds I had on that were nearly bald at 30k miles. The Tripletred is rated highly on Tirerack. Goodyear was nice enough to pick up the tab for new tires thru their warranty. So far I've noticed that they seem to have stiffer sidewalls with firmer cornering. Another bonus is that the trim piece next to the windshield does not rattle as much with these tires. I would recomend inflating the tires to 35 psi to help them wear more evenly. The edges wears too quickly at 30 psi. Buy American made tires.

I'm running a 235/65R-17 Kumho Road Venture SAT KL61. They are an All Terrain tire. I've only had them on for a thousand miles so can't comment on snow traction yet.

They are just as quiet if not slightly more so than the OE Goodyear Integrity's that were on the car. They do seem to follow the grooves in the road a little more than the Goodyears though.

Beyond that, I'll have to wait until I get more mileage out of them before commenting on treadwear or snow traction.
