Toyo Proxes4 or Yokohama Parada Spec-X?

Well, I'm looking for tires for my MSRT rims that I bought last year. I currently have GY F1 GS-D3s on my stocker 18s in a 255/55 size. If GY made an appropriate size in that model tire for the 20" rim, then I would go with that tire again because the handling was (quite frankly) out of this world! But GY doesn't and I have to go with another brand.

So, coming off the GS-D3s, which tire would make me happy? Toyo or Yoko? The tire guy said that I should be happy with either one but that was before he knew what was currently on my car. After I told him, he seemed a little nervous about those offerings and said: Well, those GS-D3s are in a league of their own. So fellow Charger owners, which one would best suit my needs given that I have absolutely loved my Goodyears? The GS-D3s have lasted me 21,000 miles, and they are now done! Time to put on those 20s.

I will be going with 245/45 in the front, and 275 in the back.

    Thanks to all who reply.

Well... what kind of driving and what weather conditions will you be dealing with? I haven't used the Proxes4 on my Charger, but I do have the Parada Spec-X, 255/45/20 on now. I like them alot! I would say they are a "Good" handling tire dry, "Very Good" wet and still "Good" in snow.

I had some very worn Proxes4 on the Miata I bought recently, and they were terrible in heavy rain! (Granted, all 4 tires were down to the wear bars...)

Ron, I usually drive aggressively when the circumstances permit...I like to tear around on the back roads. Car never sees snow, so those conditions don't apply. I am leaning to the Spec-X to give them a shot, but I had been looking at the Toyos before those. I know the Spec-Xs are loved by some but I want to know if people have run both...and which they liked better.

Do you have pics of the tires (close up? Sidewall?)

I have the spec-x's and they are great besides being directional (I prefer to rotate often) and my tread didnt last very long.

I have the Spec-X on now, but had Nitto Invo's before. The Invo's were smoother riding and quietier than the Spec-X, but the Spec-X tread is lasting longer...

I run the spec-x tires and really like them other than 2 real complaints, number one the tread is directional as pointed out, number 2 the lip/edge of them doesn't cover the rims edge very well (I personally prefer a tire that will recess the wheel edge a tad). Other than that they handle great in the rain and on dry pavement.

I should also mention that I ran these at Mid Ohio last year... they were "okay" on the road course, but complained quite a bit! Very well-balanced though, I knew the tires were complaining, but I was told by some drivers after the run that I was not just understeering, I was actually a little into a 4-wheel drift! I didn't even know it! So- they're very predictable, and really let you know when you're approaching (or over) the limits. Not the best track tire, but easy to work with!

    How's this for a picture?

I don't mind the tread being directional as my GS-D3s were directional and I had no problem with wear. One just has to keep on top of alignments, balancing and air pressure. How long did your tread last? I got 21,000 out of my GS-D3s...so if the Spec-X lasts longer than that, then I will be pleased!

I was going to go with Invos at one point but heard some people complain that the sidewall was not as strong as it ought have been...hence the 'smooth' ride. How many miles on your tires?

Directional, I don't mind. I, too, like rim protectors on the tire but these don't look too bad. Thanks for the review!

Never drove with the Yoko's so i can't give any input on those, but i do have the same size set up on my Charger Proxes 245/zr20 in front and 275/40zr20 in the rear , very minimal wear on the fronts after 15000 km and i will be replacing the rears with new ones soon cause i liketo spin them every once in awhile,,, they just grip and shot for the most part, for the first 10000k i had to put effort into spinning them Not sure is they are any good in the snow I parked the car this winter, but as for a 3 season tire they are great in my opinion Good luck

Hahaha...front barely any wear after 15,000 and you need to replace the backs...I would say that you like to spin them!!!

    Thanks!

I got about 30k out of the Invos, but a full day of autocross finished them off, and I'm at 35K on the Spec-X and still have a lot of tread left...

So the Spec-X seems to last pretty long. Have you autocrossed with the Spec-Xs?

    Thanks!
