Tires to hold big power on the steet

Im running the factory SRT8 rims, I currently running 275 Verd's on all 4 cornners. I have to say I love them,

But after getting my last tune, and now pushing 487 tq with some 3.06 with 3.23's on the way, my poor Verds cant hang no more.

I was thinking of running the Nitto 555 drags on the rear for the street.

I have read they kindof suck on the track, I don't care about that, I have my 17in with 28 MH's

What other options are out there?

Some one told me I should widen the rear rim, and get the wider Verds?

But My othere boy told me, that a better compound will help more than going wider?

What tires are better than the Verds?

    Thanks Iron Mike

You'll sandblast the paint off of your quarterpanels if you drive w/ drag radials all the time. Your only chance is more width, but good luck, I'm a little less power than you and I can't even keep my 295's hooked at 3/4 throttle.

the nitto 555's are more of a street tire for racing i thought.
like, the closest you can get to a good drag tire, without actually being a "good" drag tire.

if i was going to run sticky tires on the street, itd be the 555's, the Bridgestone Potenzas are also pretty good, but i dont know if theyre better than the Vreds, and i know the Potenzas dont get much mileage out of them. (then again, i dont think the 555's will either)

"you want extreme performance, and you are willing to sacrafice some ride comfort and hydroplane resistance to get it'
is how they describe the category i linked

*after looking thru these tirs further, im seeing that most only goto like 17" or 19".

look like theyre used a lot for autocross

I knew a few guys with stangs that ran 555Rs in the rear on thier everyday cars. Other than wearing quick(obviously) and being a bit squirelly in the rain they didn't mind them. They do throw rocks though. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get some plastic film to put on the lower back quarters.

I use them all the time. They really don't throw a ton of rocks up and they are NOT stocky at all in cold weather.
