    Tire rating and MPH

Could someone please explain the speed rating on tires? What is the meaning of the letters.

How about the speed, if tire x has a curtain rating of lets say 160mph, does that mean that tire x will blow at 161+ mph or higher speeds? Will tire x fail at 160mph in minutes, miles? Im just trying to get a better understanding.

What Im trying to ask is if my Nitto 420's will handle 150+mph in a mile long track.

    Thanks

Tire ratings are for 24 hours at rated speed. You can't reach these speeds with an LX

all tire rating is for safety.. the stock 18's on my rt are h rated, 130mph, and ive had them to 160+ many times. if your going to be running any track with street tires i would recommend a w or a z rating
Just you average low 12 second RT. Flowmaster catback, moded intake, diablo tuned by me, and 117 NOS shot.

I had tread separation with a set of Toyo Proxes 4s on a chassis dyno. The tires were Y-rated (168 mph) and the tech took the car to 182 mph at full load on the dyno. Really pissed me off.

dear lord i would have beaten that tech senseless. I sincerely hope you held that dude responsible and have him pay to replace the tires. Common sense crap right there, check equip before effecting a duty cycle on it.

I would have physically thrashed the little **** if it wasn't for the fact that a cop friend of his was there watching my car on the dyno. It was then that I realized that I was screaming at a no-wit (less than a half-wit) when I could see the back of his head through his eyeballs. Dumb is forever.
