    Tire Help

I need a new set of tires for my Magnum R/T. I have about 36000 miles, and the tires are just about down to the wearbars. I was going to buy a new set of rims and tires, but decided to just get the tires. I went shopping today for 22560r18 and found the following:

    1: Continential Touring Contacts

    2: Hercules Ultra Touring

    3: Bridgestone Turanza

    4: Goodyear Comfortread.

These go from the cheapest to the most expensive, a differerence of $120 from bottom to top. I know about 1 and 4, do not have a clue about the middle 2. I want a well wearing tire without the problems of my original ones. I'm pretty sure some have bought the Goodyears without any problems. Does anyone have any recommendations? I know I could buy other sizes, but they just start getting really expensive. For some of the prices they charge, I could just wait and buy rims and tires from someone on the forum.

    Thanks in advance.

I cannot comment on 2, 3 or 4, but I would never buy any tire from Continental. Mine got to the wear marks at less than 22.000 miles.

Dunlop has a new LX-sized tire out in it's SP Sport Signature line:

I have no opinion on this tire, just that I know it's new and comes in 225/60R18 size in H and V ratings (not sure if the LX size is V rated though) so it's another option to look at.

You're not necessarily stuck with that size either. A lot of people have gone with a 255 tire with a reduced sidewall (I think 255/50) to keep it near stock height. If you're interested in a wider profile then you'll have a lot more choices too.

I know someone that would be happy to change the tire size in your FCM if you want to go with a different one.

Just for fun, I'd see what Adam at Eastway would come up with as well... He might have some good ideas based on what he's already done. (But still shop around...)

Cooper also offers a tire in the 225/60/18 size.

BFG's KDWS's 245/55/18 went 40,000 for me, Contis went 12,000, GY's about 25,000. BFG's stayed safe in the wet even when nearly worn out, fair in snow. Good traction dry also.
