    Time for some front brakes

    I think im past due on some front brakes so Im going to have to go out and buy some. I think im going to get regular rotors this time around and some good pads. I was looking at these.

    rotorpros.com might be a good place too look also...i got a price for slotted and HAWK HPS for 190.00 shipped.... which is the best deal soo far.

    Thanks for the reply. Im really not trying to spend that much but maybe ill look into it.
    I kinda expected more replys about this subject but with this board it figures.

    Input: Rotors won't change the performance of the brakes. A 13" rotor is a 13" rotor. You can't "make more brake" regardless of what someone does to the surface of it.

    That being said, slots or holes can enhance the effectiveness of the pads you choose to a degree. But wear them faster and maybe make more noise too.

    Pick a pad compound that's conducive to your driving style. If you want more brake you'll need a pad that is more metallic and more abrasive to provide the bite. Expect noise and dust. If you want low noise and dustless performance for a clean wheel and street cruising, don't expect race car like brake torque. And if you use them hard they'll overheat, break down, smear the rotor, and lead to pulsation.

    well ebay has awesome prices on OEM rotors....im halfway lookin into doin what ur doin...but everything i have looked at is soo close to the same price of just goin with rotor pros its lookin like thats the route im gonna have to go with...but idk

    sooo what do u suggest as far as performance and no care for dust and do i need any sort of different rotors as far as slotted, drilled, etc..?

    If the pads are up to the task the benefits of slots or holes is negligible. Will it brake better? Not really, what it will do is keep the pads from gumming up some with the boundary layer between it and the friction surface helping to insure the pad functions at its best. So why does everyone (including me) do it? Because you guys want it. You wouldn't purchase a rotor that "could be" a bit better , f only it had slots would you? Be honest...everyone wants the "upgrade"; it must be better. It's just human nature.

    The pads are your best investment. I have some I prefer over others on my own vehicles but because I don't sell oe replacement pads I'd be picking sides among good vendors who do. That's not fair. Ask those who sell pads why they promote one pad over the next to meet YOUR needs not a generalized summary. Ask what the Cf of the pad is and how it is effected by heat. At what temp does it break down? Does it recover well or cake and crumble or smear? How does it's noise and dust rates compare to other compounds. If anyone cannot tell you this with some certainty and specifics...move on to someone who really does know the product.

    This was some great posting and exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for taking you time to break it down. From the pad list that i posted in the first post. Which would u chose?
    So I can understand what different types of pads do.
    Go for semi matalic or the ceramic?

    Go back and read what I wrote again. You won't get "brakes that are not noisy but give me some real good performance" both to have different intents.

    It's like sanding Oak with 320 grit paper. Getting reasonable value in both catagories today is not all that hard but for the guy looking for the best of both worlds; it doesn't exist. What's more important to you: no noise and low dust or improvements in stopping response?

    As for suggestions, I already bowed out of that. Unless you opt for a full kit.
