    Steering/suspension noises

'06 Charger R/T, bought used @ 28K miles, had it a few weeks now.

In the past week, it's developed intermittent steering and, I think, suspension noise.

Steering: SOMEtimes, (seems to be when at operating temp, not cold), I get a creak or groan in the steering & floorboards when turning the wheel left, but not right. This is at rest or in parking lots @ lot speeds, turning into a parking place, etc. It's something I feel more than hear...well, hear it in the cab, but I stood outside while my wife turned the wheel. She felt it/ heard it inside, I heard nothing outside. This comes and goes.

Suspension: I hear slight knocks, etc. going over bumps. I haven't owned the car long, so not sure how this should be normally. But I heard creaking in the front in a parking lot tonight, going over kind of rolling pavement. Got home, and pushed down and up on the front end...I could hear a slight creak in the front suspension. Not in the rear.

I have a bumper to bumper extended warranty (out of factory warranty by time) so I'll take it in anyways, but just curious if anyone else has had these symptoms...just because there seems to be a lot of suspension/steering rack issues posted where techs look and don't see anything wrong. I want to tip them off if anyone here has a lead on what the issues might be.

    Thanks in advance.

I've had some low creaking in my steering wheel lately, and I narrowed it down to the shaft itself in the center of the steering column. I don't think it's the same, as mine was not direction-dependent like yours seems to be. But there's some info here: Lubrication points to stop steering column creaking?

And when it's cold out, I do get a groan/squeaking from the front suspension over speedbumps. I *think* I got it on the stock suspension as well as the KW's I've got on there now. That goes away once everything gets up to op temp.

Not much to go on, I know...

    Still, thanks. It's something.

I parked in the driveway last night. Backed it out of the driveway this morning, turned it around, and backed it into the garage. No noises this time. Temp outside this morning is probably mid-50's.

I have it in mine to, but it did not start until they replaced the rack and pinion. I complained about the noise from the power steering, after 3 yes 3 power steering pumps they put a new rack in. That is when it started well I just had them put a new rack in and it is still there. So it must be something ells and it only dose it making left turns. But the power steering is not as noisy as it was. So I think it might be in the suspension going to talk to my dealer again.

Good question. It sounds like the creaking I heard in the parking lot, but not as consistently as you're hearing it. Maybe shock? Maybe strut?

Someone more mechanically inclined than me want to chime in?

ST (KW) coilovers, Hotchkis bars. Now this noise is either the inner bushings on the front swaybar or the coilovers.

I experienced this aggravating noise last year about this time, the temp is hovering around 0C (32F).

I lubed the front inner bushings on the swaybar last oil change, about 2 weeks ago.

The noise is easily repeatable over any road undulations that compress the front suspension a significant amount (like in the video). I'm looking for others who have or had a similar noise...and what it turned out to be...

I just recently heard a squeak going over bumps. Sounds like worn out shocks. I hope it isnt since i just put it in 3k miles ago. RT with SRT suspension. every speed bump and it makes the noise.
