Running out of tire options

I know we beat this thing to death but I need help.
The KDWS 255/55/18 no avalable anymore
KDWS 245/55/18 6 months back order.
I'm thinking of the Yokohama YK520 235/55R/18. My Discount tire guy said that these are only for the rears though, Can anyone suggest something else, I have a 2005 RT RWD. Thanks and sorry for asking the question over and over.

FloridaRT - I like them but how are they in the snow? I know you can't answer that being in the sun all the time, I'm in Michigan, winters suck, I hate it.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you want to go in the snow you need snow tires, best I have run are Dunlop Wintersport M3's . 5 Stars. Tire Rack has the KDWS's in 245/55/18's but if you drive in the snow with them you won't be happy. The Dunlops wore very good and great handeling tire, except for a little noise, you can drive em in the summer. The Pirelli Ice and Snows were ok, but wore out very fast.

Best bet for snow is snow tires on all 4 wheels, I had them on my 96' Impala SS when I lived near Chicago. I think they were Blizzak's????

Keep your gas tank full and throw some weight in the trunk.

As of last Saturday, Tire Rack quoted 30-60 day delivery on the KDWS 245/55/18. Nice tire with few compromises. Is your tire guy's information solid on 6 months??

There never was a KDWS in the 255/55/18 size. The popular tire here is the KDW-two, a 3 season tire, and as you noted, now discontinued.

There are other tires, what are you looking for? A big all-season? Stock dia? Have you considered getting a set of winter tires? Another set of RT rims are cheap from guys that go to 20's.

At least one member reported the big 255/55 Hankook working well as an all-season. 225/60 GY comfort tread?

Have you tried the tire finder at Tirerack? Enter size and type of tire and it gives you selections.

For the incremental cost of some steel wheels, you can put together a great set of winter wheels, save your summer rims from the salt, and eventually get a "high performance SUMMER tire". That is truly the best of both worlds - with the best handling in all seasons.

Note that the cost of mounting and balancing your wheels every fall and spring for 3 or 4 seasons (the life of the winter tires), probably exceeds the cost of the steel rims.

I know this winter I will be putting winter tires on my stock wheels. The Conti's just can't cut it in the winter. I had some Dunlop Graspic 2's on my last car and absolutely loved them! They turned my old car into a snowmobile! I felt invincible driving in the snow with those tires. I'm going to have to look into the Wintersport M3's. Thanks for the recommendation. Beans to you.

So does anyone have an opion on the Yokohama YK520 235/55R/18 ?

I put Yokohama ADVAN S.T. tires on my Daytona. I got 255/55/18 tires all around. The tires come stock on the hi end crossover SUVs like the the Mercedes M, the Porsche Cayenne, and the Infinity Q. I feel the car handles better and has better traction at the track. The wet traction is phenomenal, they act like they are on dry roads. They are considered Hi Performance summer tires but they look like the tread would be pretty good in the type of snow we get here. I don't know how they would be in the winter for northern climates. One down side, the tires are a bit pricey when compared to others in the same size.

You might try checking out the Kumho 255/55/18. The reason I shyed away from them is the 180 tread wear rating. The Kuhmo tires are priced right though. The Michelin Pilots that came stock were real nice tires. I wanted to go wider, the widest Michelins came in was 235/55/18.

The BFG's are okay, I was never crazy about the thread design, plus they are NOISY on the highway.

I will probably keep them, just wish I had gone with my other choice, the General Grabbers UHP. Plus they were cheaper and I like their thread design better.
