    Rear cradle bushings

    I am curious about the difference between the standard cradle bushings and the "police" parts listed in the parts manual.

    On the replacement process, there exists 10 ton pancake hydraulic cylinders with 1" or 2" stroke. Can we come up with a way to fashion a fork shaped cast iron tool similar to a ball joint tool that woul take the 5 tons it takes to press these out and in that could be used in the car? This would work with about 6" of lowering of the cradle without full disassembly.

    (Manual says to pull the entire cradle and disassemble all the links to do this job! Stupid hour count to replace a simple bushing. Simply not acceptable!)


    JAAK! Lets think about this, more of us need these bushings changed than even realize. Ayone that has driven this car like it seems to like to be driven likely has damaged these things! If you feel like the tires are rolling, but you are "SURE" they couldn't be, you have damage, roll the car up on the ramps and look!!

    As long as I get exact specs I can make the tool. I have access to a heavy duty machine shop.

    Not sure what type of tool you're trying to make here... something to hold the jack to the member so you can pop the bushing out w/o having to use a traditional press?

    Something similar to this only just the right half without the pivot. The pancake jack would have to fit into the flat part and the forked end would have to straddle the bushing outer case being pushed out. Then turn it over with the new bushing in place to put it in.





    For use with one of these type cylinders.
