Problem w/ mounting Cobra 17" rim

I was at track with these for first time yesterday and although one side snugged up to the hub fine the other didn't and luckily somebody saw the rim wobble during the burnout. I remounted it and it was good but not perfect. I had it torqued correctly but it must not have fit somewhere. I read somewhere about people grinding the center bore to get a better fit. How can I determine if this is the issue or if it is an issue with the difference between 5X115 and 5X114.3 causing the problem?

If its a factory Cobra wheel the hub may be too small......if it's the aftermarket wheel alot of us use you need hubcentric rings to properly center the wheel on the hub.From what you describe you are using factory Cobra wheels and the hub bore is too small.

If it is the factory Cobra wheel, with the smaller than LX center bore, you should be able to shove it on by hand and see if it seats up against the brake rotor, squarely. I had to machine the center hub on mine, since it was not going on all of the way.

115mm - 114.3mm

Not a problem. The difference is only 0.0276" Not even a 32nd of an inch.

Thanks for the replies. These are aftermarket Cobra rims. I'll have to look at them closlely today and figure out what happened. Weird that one side fit and the other didn't. Plus I have to bang the tire with a hammer on that side to get the rim to come come off.

I bought some hubcentric rings from Jegs (had to be special ordered). They did not fit in the bore of the rims (bore too small). On the rims I have there is a narrower lip approximately 1/4" thick around the inside end of the center bore.

That is not good...to have to bang on it... Mine (Cobra replicas) fits fine but I got it from 402 motoring...

we had to bore out the inner hubs of the wheel (not much) on DVSSRT's..

Good to know. I just looked at mine closely and there is a rough raised lip on the inside of the center bore where it mounts to the hub. I think I may just take a round file to it (although that doesn't sound very precise).
