    Lugnut cap stripped

I was rotating my tires yesterday when I found out that one of the lugnuts on the front right side is completely screwed (no pun intended). It seems that the cap is just spinning on the nut itself. I am so pissed with the dealership that I dont even want to take it back there unless I absolutely have to. Anyone know of what tools/technique can be used to remove this lugnut? Again, the fake-chrome cap is just spinning on the nut itself.

    Crappy stock lugs.

Stock lugnuts are known to do this, use something sharp to get into outer cover.
    Then peel the cover off.

These are what I use now.................. still a 2 piece, but better made.

Once the cover is off, what do I use to remove the nut? Is it just a smaller diameter?

If you have a full set of both metric and SAE sockets, there should be one in there that will be an "interference fit" on the interior lugnut. Can't say which one it'll be - it depends on how banged up it is. I had to literally hammer a socket onto mine, to have enough grip on it to handle the torque necessary to get it off...

Here's some good info about the same issue (at least about what to replace the stock lugnuts with):

Unfortunately I dont think I have the tools required. Is there a particular tool/part that you recommend? I might have to pick this up today.

^^^ Do you have a tire shop nearby? I'd bet if you took it in there, they could take care of it right quick. They've seen it before.

Also, once you get it off, do go ahead and replace all of them with some good Gorillas or similar - it will happen again. Best $30 I ever spent.

U know what? Thats what I'll do. I'll take it to the local Tire shop. These Gorillas seem to be the lug of choice on the boards so I'll pick up a set of those as well.

    Thanks Jr!

go with the stainless steel gorilla. they are a little more expensive but worth it because the wont rust. I had this happen to me last month and i had to hammer on a socket that was a little smaller. make sure if you do it yourself not to use an impact gun a break bar would work better

Yes just a smaller size. Remember that your lug nut wrench and lugs are 21 mm but when you change to the corilla nuts the size is different so carry the right wrench with you in case of a flat.

Yeah these lug nuts SUX. I gotta get down and get some Gorilla Stainless lugs as well. I only have 3200 miles on mine and plan to rotate at 6000, so I got a little time yet. AND... because the SRT's have NO JACK, NO LUG WRENCH, I'm going to buy a socket, breaker bar and jack for mine!

Rather than the breaker bar you may want to get a "cheapie" 1/2" torque wrench from Harbor Freight. On sale they go for about $12-15...not bad, and their quality is good for the occasional user.

If you get the SS Gorillas from Amazon you can get five sets of four for less than four sets of four due to the free shipping over $25. My total for five sets was about $29.

That sucks, did you ever get it off?

I had a problem a week ago with a dealer and lug nuts. I lost one of my lugs a few weeks ago changing the tires, so I bought a replacement from the dealer. I put it on and thought it felt a little snug going on but it went on. I even unscrewed it and screwed it back on to make sure I wasn't cross threading. Well when I went to change out my tires again I couldn't get that lug off. I had to take my car to the dealer and they had to brake the stud off and install a new one for $80. They said I must have cross threaded the lug, but I swear they gave me the wrong lug.
