lug nut torque

I have 05 Magnum RT, has 20" panther rims with toyo proxy tires. I gonna rotate the tires front to back. Service manual says lug nut torque is 110 ft/lbs. Should I use this spec with the Panther rims? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm thinking use the spec of 110 ft/lbs but wanted to get you guys opinion.:???:

I would do a quick call the the place you bought the wheels/tires..they should tell you.

not having any kind of locking mechanism on these fasteners, they rely solely on thread to thread friction to keep them from loosening. the brand of wheels should not matter. if you are using OE style lug nuts (tapered seat), keep same torque (110 ft/lbs), and never lubricate the threads (that's how wheels fall off).

Thanks FNKYCHN, thats what I did, 110 ft/lbs and no lube on the threads, yes they are using a tapered seat, so original it is!. Great to have a DC tech in this forum, thanks again

Just a note of caution for what it's worth. I spent the last 12 years in the tire and custom wheel business. Personally, I wouldn't put my lug nuts on CUSTOM WHEELS to the factory specs.

If you can get a hold of Panther or whoever manufactured your wheels, they will have a spec for the wheel. I can't think of one company that I have ever dealt with that uses the factory specs for custom wheels.

Don't get me wrong, lots of folks do it and never know any different. The bottom line is that a little too tight is better than a little too loose.

I'd still call and get the spec, that's just me. Hope that helps.

hey just so you know I called Panther because I recently put 22" Akuza rims (made by Panther) on my and SUV and wanted to ask them the proper torque and they told me set it to the factory torque, it doesn't matter what rims you use. Then I called the place I bought them from and they told me 95 lbs, which was way less then the 120 I'd prolly use and the 140 my dealership puts on them. My point being not to overtorque because you can break them. I have had 2 bolts break off on me before, thankfully not together.

Thanks BombAzzRide, save me a phone call. When I set mine to 110, felt almost tight enough, not quite, but I left it at 110, that is what they were set at from the dealer who installed the rims.

My owners manual on page 266 says 100 ft/lb. What's 10 ft/lbs amoung friends.

What I want to know is has anyone with an SE looked at the way to put lugnuts on the wheels that have wheel covers? It's on page 267 in OM.

It says to install two lug nuts on either side of valve stem, then put on wheel cover and other three lug nuts.

Then tighten lug nuts.

WTF??? :confused:
