    Lug Nut Issues

I had to change a flat tire on my SRT8 and I stripped the factory junk lug nuts. I replaced the factory ones with the gorilla lugs #41147. I was a bit leary of these because they are the same lenth as the stock junk lugs. Now when I back the car out of a parking space the front end now bangs hard. Guess what, the gorilla lugs are bottoming out on the studs, not the wheels. I just ordered Topline # C1709HL4, they are buldge seat and only about 1/4 of an inch longer than 41147, and they will seat on the wheels, not the wheel studs. The overal length on the gorrillas is 1.40. The toplines are 1.65. Externally the gorilla lug nuts and the stock ones look identical, but internally the gorillas are shorter.

YIKES... I just bought 20 Gorilla nuts to replace all of mine.

Can anyone else confirm they don't fit?

Isellspeed can you explain what you mean by "the front end now bangs hard"?

    Thanks

When I back out of a parking spot and turn the wheel hard, the front end bangs and shifts like I've run over something. With the wheels turned and backing up and only my lock lug tight against the rim, I think the wheel is trying to remove itself from the car.

I gave the part #'s to Josh at Highhorse. You should be able to go to your local speed shop and and order them. C1709HL4 Topline. They are for cars with longer studs, but not those long goofy lugs they sell for trucks.

Wow i just went through the exact same thing the other day putting my stock wheels back on. Also did your stock lug wrench fit those crappy stock lugs?

What lug wrench? The antique 4 way tire iron I had in my basement? I also discovered that the dealer removed my can of fix a flat too! Thank God I keep a spare SRT8 wheel and tire at my shop. I had to beat a 13/16 socket onto those crappy stock lugs just to get them off of the car.

    Isellspeed,
I have had the front end bucking and popping issue since I've owned the car - before the first factory lug nut was removed. It's more pronounced with cold weather. I've had it explained to me as being a function of the allignment camber and the width of the tire. It has improved as I got some wear on the front tires. I would expect new tires to be more problematic.

    Bob,
They should work, but they are the same as the factory junk lugs, these too have a stainless steel cover crimped onto a open end lugnut. I prefer solid one piece chrome lugs. Old school here.
