    Loose caliper

I'm getting a rattling coming from the front wheels on both sides when going over small bumps. Its freakin pissing me off. I know its the brakes b/c it goes away when even a small amount of pressure is applied to the brake pedal. I doubt its the notorious 'clamps' that secure the pads b/c those are pretty tight last time I checked. I'm pretty sure the calipers are loose.

If anyone can tell me exactly what can be loose w/the caliper/rotor and what to tighten, i'd be ever-so-happy

    Thx!

I had this same problem. knocking/rattling/clunking noise when rolling over bumps or uneven roads. the noise would go away whenever I applied my breaks, but whenever I hit a bump, I'd hear the same knocking. steering wasn't tight either.

my tie rods were on their way out the door. changed them out and have been noise free ever since!

But how could it be tie rods if the noise goes away when braking is applied? I can make the noise go away at will just by gently applying the brakes when going over bumps.

just check the caliper bolts. I had the same problem after installing my Brembo's. i had a friend of mine do the fronts while I worked on the back. He didn't tighten the caliper bolts down on the drive side and while I was driving a bolt flew off and the caliper fell down and was scraping on the rotor..scared the S%!@ out of me b/c I thought my wheel was falling off. Pulled over, found the bolt, jacked the car up and tighten them up..

well, the noise went away, for me, when I was slowing down ..... I guess 'cuz the car wasn't movin' around as much? everytime I hit the brakes, the noise stopped, but they weren't light taps; it was to get the car to stop bouncing as much.
