Dunno what you mean by "pulling from the top performance". They have no effect on the motor output. By dialing them stiffer you reduce ride comfort. Opening them up ioncreases comfort. Only effect is a difference in rebound...
... which brings me to cornering. Coilovers - as far as the shock part goes - do little for cornering. They decrease body roll some and thats good. They increase control by quite a bit since they can take a lot of road imperfections and smooth them out so you aren't bouncing all over the place. But they are only part of the overall solution. If you lower the car with the V2's then you lower the car's center of gravity and *that* is where you are going to see big improvements. I'm 2" down in front and 2.5" down in the rear, but the lower-in-the-rear thing is for road racing and better control under extreme deceleration.
If you want serious cornering improvements, do sway bars. But that is a MAJOR ride comfort change. Be sure you really want it.
And if you really really want cornering capability add in Pedders bushings. That ain't cheap but it covers the last 10% of "do-all-you-can-do".
