Unhappy I really miss Raised White Letter Tires

What the hell happened. It really just dawned on me, that over the past 5 years, wheels have become like bicyles and wagons, and nothing but a 1/4 inch of sidewall. Who the hell started this nonsense?

I was looking at the pics of my car versus the 60's ones I had and I remember all my Goodyear tires and the RWL and now I shopped around for them, they dont seem to exist anymore. Only gaudy 10 speed rims with Huffy written all over it.

When the hell is this fad goig to end?? I want my nice thick sidewalls and raised white letters.

Geez, I must be old, because I sure remember growing up, the cool cars were the ones with POWER not what rims and light bulbs you had.

That seems to be all thats out there, a flood of useless junk and who has got wheels that look like they should be Michael Landons Wagon in Little House on the Prairie fitted with concert flood lights to blind everyone across the highway simply asking for a nice head-on collision and a 1930's steam radiator cover from your granny, used as a grille.

call me nuts or old, i dont care, but man, do i miss the days of REAL modifications and i hate to tell you, the LAST thing I look at on a car is the rims and tires, I look at the CAR and paint first, then the engine then the interior, then the wheels, then under the car.

    ok rant over.

    tires

I don't know how old you are, but I would like to see the red line tires again. I think they would look good on these cars. If you don't know what I'm talking about, they had a red stripe, about 3/8" instead of a whitewall.
I think they were goodyears. they were a must have, back then. anyone else remember those?

THe next addition to my 69 Dart GTS will be the redline tires. That should add a fninshing touch to the restoration.

    Diamondback III's

Heres basically what my Dart would look like with them on (THis is a freind's GTS)

And here are my originals with the white letters and Cragar SS wheels

My 2 sons in 1982 with my 72 Demon 340

Me in 69 with my Dart

Sorry for all the fill here, but I too like the old white letters and redlines

As far as REAL mods go, I love opening the hood on my 300C

But I REALLY love opening the hood on my 440 Dart GTS

I used to have to have white letter tires on any tires I bought. Now I do not even like white walls..I would just have them turned to the inside if that was my only choice. Amazing how times change.

Yea, I really miss the good old days of scrubing the white letters with ajax cleanser to keep them white. Like that was alot of fun. The best thing that ever happened was getting rid of white sidewalls and white letters.
Whose stupid idea was that in the first place?

I have been searching for raised white/yellow letter tires for a while. The information I get is that they are available for 14" and 15" rims (I suppose for the restorers of the muscle car era autos).
At this time there is little market for 18" and higher rim tires with raised letters, hence I don't expect to find them anywhere.
Maybe I should consider putting 15's on my Magnum. I bet that would be cheap! Might as well tub it while I spending $,$$$.

hell yeah...just make sure you use slot mag wheels, put a Dana 60 rear end in it, get some traction bars, and install a straight pipe exhaust with Purple Hornies at the end.

And with todays technology in rubber, why would you lose it having a higher profile? I didnt say ridiculous thick. But a 1/4 inch to the street is not what I want, gimme about 1-2 inches and chuck some white letters on the sides. Thats cool.

Slightly younger than the red lines. Im 38, I was in the days of Goodyear decent sidewalls with thick raised white letters. Thats what I miss, the LOOK. Though I dont really want tires from the 60's or 70's technology, just the look for my Charger.
